Border patrol agents stopped a vehicle and U-Haul trailer early Wednesday Feb 15 in Lordsburg detaining a subject and the marijuana. Agents turned the case over to DEA Tucson agents. Informants say street value of the marijuana is about 37500 dollars.
The Lordsburg facility with 80 residents and 60 staff hired Dr. Bob Patton of Albuquerque to address Health and Social Services Department deficiencies before March 31. The main issues involve documentation of activities, with officials saying certification and Medicaid provider agreement could be terminated if not resolved. Governor's office says state will work with the home to protect patients and facility.
Three historic trails in far southwest Hidalgo County once used by smugglers cattle drivers and the military. Skelton Canyon spans New Mexico Arizona near Coronado National Forest with limited access. The Park Commission feasibility study was approved after a state park meeting in Tor C. A Playas Road Committee was formed with Harold Johnson as chairman to pursue a road to Playas.
The Southwest New Mexico Resource Conservation and Development council meeting in Lordsburg will discuss the Carter Administration's rural development plans. David King, chairman of the New Mexico Rural Development Committee, will report at the Civic Center meeting starting at 1 p.m. Joint Council of Governments and RC&D Committee meetings begin at 10 a.m.
