Judge B. K. Ownby delivered two white narcissus bouquets from Aunt Anna's front yard to the Chamber of Commerce this week. The flowers emitted a noticeable fragrance as attendees entered.
Mrs. R. W. Aldrich and Mrs. Marks from Roswell arrived Tuesday to visit the Aldrich brothers family and their parents at the Stengele home. Mrs Marks plans to continue on to California after the visit.
Lt. B F Basila leads the Red Rock CCC Camp with Lt. T B Northam and Supt S W Robeson directing crews across canyons to combat soil erosion. J G Shaw becomes education director as crews work in harmony. Visitors from Studio Theatre and Chamber of Commerce meet the boys at Lordshure.
Recent visitors to Lordshoro's Hidalgo Courts in WA include author Nina Wilcox Putnam who wrote a transcontinental travel tale and spent a night there, Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr with bride, writer Arthur Gunther using the pen Ira A. Hall, hotel executive Ep stein of Illinois hotels, and May Company GM May of Los Angeles.
A February 8 1935 grazing meeting at Deming New Mexico to organize the Southwestern New Mexico Grazing District has been postponed by FP R Carpenter US Interior. A government representative will be in Deming that day to inform stockmen about the Taylor Grazing Bill provisions.
FE J Short, C E Speer, Henry Ellison, Freeman McWhorter, and Toby Wallace left Sunday by bus for Detroit to bring back new automobiles. Short will return with an Oldsmobile, Wallace with an Oldsmobile for W A Short, Speer with a Ford, and McWhorter and Ellison with Plymouth cars.
Miss Anne Roabhs and Nathan Blake wed on Tuesday January 29 in Hachita. Justice of the Peace R Norris officiated. The bride formerly lived with her parents in Virden. Blake works as a mining contractor for Mr Blood Hinke at the mines south of Hachita. They plan to reside in Hachita and friends offer congratulations.
Andres Hernandez chief clerk in the CCC camp at Las Cruces is visiting Lordsburg with family and friends. He may join the Forest Service with headquarters in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. Commissioner E Thygerson of Virden traveled to Lordsburg on business.
President McDonald and Vice President Dyer of the Southern Pacific Company rode in on No. 1 Monday along with world heavyweight champion Max Baer. The champ agreed to a photo with the railroad magnates during their Lordsburg stop and asked for a copy mailed to Oakland California.
Miss Rebecca Graham federal supervisor of adult education arrived Monday night to inspect instructors including Mrs. Sam Killebrew Miss Louise Fisher and Mrs. Haley. She was encouraged by progress teaching adults basic education. Mrs Zea Bates state supervisor of Home Economics inspected Mrs. Silver's department noting excellent work.
Betty Jane Frymire and Lt James Sherwood Culberson wed at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Silver City. The ceremony officiated by Dr Ross R Calvin featured a large reception at Mrs Lora Newell’s home and a honeymoon ahead on the Culberson ranches near Lordsburg. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Tom Clayton and others from the area.
Miss Annabelle Corbell hosted the Junior B Y P U Social Tuesday night with games and refreshments for about three members and guests.
Lordsburg students at State Teachers College Silver City stage Stunt Night. Alpha Psi Omega awards 10 dollar first prize for a Barretts of Wimpole Street parody and 5 dollar second prize for a mock wedding. Several Lordsburg residents perform across dorm shows.
Mr and Mrs William H Hunt of Cleveland Ohio spent Saturday in Lordsburg during a West tour and said in conversation with a Liberal representative they had a personal interview with Mahatma Gandhi in Delhi at a palace owned by a Mohammedian doctor where they were also staying.

Mrs G E Zimmerman and Mrs Dorman Michelmore return home with Mr and Mrs Harry Day after a month in Los Angeles.
Home Demonstration meetings were held in Cloverdale Animas Valley View and Rodeo with strong attendance. Aprons from feed sacks with colonial girl appliques were the main project and many participants started patterns for others. Hostesses and cooks featured refreshments as members shared canning and sewing skills and planned next meetings.
The Sweet Mining Company reports a weekly ore shipment from the Old Prospector mine netting over fifty dollars per ton, almost all gold. The mine is equipped to hoist half a ton at a time from the 103 ft level where drifting has begun, and five claims are owned with ample ore in sight to sustain a long operation.
Robert Otis Miller beloved son of Mr and Mrs W F Miller Red Rock was buried from Lordsburg Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon Rev C S Walker preached the sermon. The remains were laid to rest in Mountainview cemetery.
Commissioner W. H. Walter and his wife and Mrs. R. H. Wamel from Animas drove to Lordsburg on Monday for a visit.
Charlie Stevens spent several days in El Paso this week visiting local sites and meeting residents.
Lordsburg native Jack Kerr has risen in Modesto Junior College California football and basketball. Kerr, once a top all state player in last season's New Mexico tournament, now weighs 180 pounds and is praised as a strong defensive end and receiver. His story reflects many New Mexico athletes finding paths in other states.
J G Shaw New Educational Director of Red Rock COC camp praised the Lions and Lordsburg attendance. Three new members Paul W Brown A V Proun and FE Forrest Sanders will be initiated next Tuesday noon. Events include a southwestern basketball tourney and a ladies night in Silver City on February 12.
The Lordsburg Hidalgo Library Board met in the Library room at 1 30 for its regular monthly session with President Mrs Claude Fuller presiding. Librarian reported 1200 books and 265 magazines borrowed in the previous month. Library open 104 hours and free cards issued to date. Board members present included Mesdames L C Conner Felix Gauthier N C Tenney W H Walters Ray Edmonton and Jesse T Smith.
The regular Board meeting of the Cemetery Association will be held at the B. B. Own by home Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. Everyone invited to attend.
Huling, owner of the H Y Ranch near Silver City, invites polo players to meet at his ranch next Saturday to organize a Southwestern Polo Association. A member from Lordsburg is expected to attend.
The Kerr family entertained Orr Kerr a director of the First National Bank at Marfa Texas and Hil Cotter also of Marfa attended the event.
The Lordsburg council reports a thorough cleaning and exterior painting of the municipal water tank, plus a new flushing apparatus to keep it clean. A new bottom was installed in the reserve tank near the wells, and $8000 in water bonds are in sinking fund while $8000 has been retired.
Mary Elizabeth Lewis, now Beth Dair, wins first chorus spot in Mae West’s Paramount film Belle of the Nineties. The ex typist from Johnson City Tenn moved from New York Mirror and The Chantele to acting and plans to pursue a pilot’s license after gaining film experience. The movie is set in New Orleans and screens at the Studio Theatre February 10 to 12.
Los Angeles fighter Ford defeated Kid Valdon of Phoenix by seventh round referee stoppage in a ten round scheduled bout. Fans questioned the ruling as Valdon remained fresh despite a facial injury. Jimny Wakefield stopped Tony Batres in the third round. Art Wakefield won a decision over Bat Smith. Promoter Ralph Smith plans further fights with announcements to follow.
Mr and Mrs W F Ritter and their daughter Peggy of El Paso along with Mr and Mrs Jon Ritter of Mesilla Park were in town Wednesday night traveling to Tucson to visit M P Walker and family.
Several friends report Mrs. T. A. Kerr is improving satisfactorily following a recent accident.
The Methodist Missionary Society met Friday at Mrs. Chas Puller’s ranch home. A three course luncheon followed a devotional by Mrs. C S Walker and a dialogue “The Wells Our Fathers Digged.” Business by Mrs. Puller announced a Colonial Tea at Mrs. W C Mearns. Members present included Mrs. Ebert Jones, Mrs. Geo Trimble, Mrs. C S Walker, Mrs. H L Scofield, Mrs. R Harpham, Mrs. A L Green, Mrs. W H Small, Mrs. 8 M Chase, Mrs. W C Mearns, Mrs. Mattie Keithley, and others.
The Boy Scouts held a dinner at the Methodist Church on Thursday evening with twenty members present and some guests. They vote to hold regular weekly meetings each Tuesday at Central School starting February 4, with George Jones elected scribe and registration fees due. A Scouts basketball tournament is underway, Bumble Bee beat Hornets 22 to 10, and remaining games occur this weekend as scouts seek odd jobs to fund fees.
Mrs. R. A. Palos hosted the N. and T. Club Tuesday afternoon. Members included Mesdames S EF Allen S. M. Chase Chas. Fuller A. J. Green BE. L. Jones G.P. Jeffus E. S. Lewis W. H. Small H. L. Scofield and the hostess. Lovely refreshments were served.
JAK HEAD, former Hi dalgo County chief deputy, was in the district this week serving in his new role as inspector for the State Liquor Board.
