Manager Hen Dunagan of the Studio Theatre invites students to a special matinee on Friday February 22. The film Great Expectations, adapted from Charles Dickens, will be shown. Box office opens at 3 and the show begins at 330 with 10 and 15 cent admission.
Mrs. H. L. Scofield presided as hostess for the N. and T. Club Tuesday afternoon. Members present included Mesdames W. H. Small J. E. Allen S. E. Allen R. A Palm Chas Fuller George Trimble and the hostess Guests were Mesdames C. S. Walker F. H. Singer W. C. Mearns Lovely refreshments were served.
Lordsburg Better Housing Committee reports 10071 in reconstruction and new construction with more pledges expected. The program of Title I focuses on modernization and Title II on new homes, with further housing improvements planned nationwide. The Chamber of Commerce offers information to residents.
The Valley Zone Meeting in Las Cruces on February 11, 1935 gathered representatives from Anthony Hatch Berino La Mesa Trinity Asbury El Paso Lordsburg Beazito Canutillo. Reports praised missionary work new members and New World Outlook subscribers with an Organ Recital by Mrs W J Stevens as a highlight.
Miss Vida Graham a Presbyterian missionary to India on a year long Far East vacation stopped in Lordsburg with her mother during a southern tour. She praised the Hi algo hotel in Lordsburg saying she has never seen higher grade lodging in towns much larger than Lordsburg.
The Independent Electric Shop relocates from the Liberal office building to the Green Plumbing Shop building in the same block.
Miss Emily Lewis spent the past week visiting relatives in El Paso.
Mrs. Frank Stengele hosted a February 8 birthday party with a Valentine pink theme. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Wim Burruss, Mr. and Mrs. WW McAndries, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stengele, Mr. and Mrs. Tom McCabe, Mrs. R. W. Aldrich, and Kwonoree. The menu featured chicken salad, heart sandwiches, peach mousse, chocolate cake and coffee.
The Methodist Missionary Society invites all members and friends to a Colonial Tea on Friday February 22 at 3 p m at the home of Mrs W C Mearns All are welcome to attend and participate in the event hosted by the society.
Monday February 18 program includes Song America invocation assembly sing readings solos duets guitar and violin selections by piano duo and Gettysburg Address by Ralph Jones with Miss Ruth Wood and Mildred Conner as performers Publicity Chairman invites students to join a picture contest at 8:00 P M at the High School.
Mrs E F Hindman hosted the Baptist W M S on Wednesday afternoon with a brief business session led by president Mrs Felix Jones. The group studied John chapter six and enjoyed refreshments of sandwiches salad pie whipped cream and coffee. Attendees included Rev M C Moore Mesdames William Marlar Felix Jones Lester Henslee Sam Gass and the hostess.
The Lions Club basketball team defeated Willcox town team Wednesday night to extend their winning streak. The victory highlights a strong performance from Lions Club players and solid team defense in the matchup.
In a city Board of Education race with no contested posts, Elizabeth DeMoss and S. M. Chase win six year terms and P. M. McInnis takes a two year seat, with fewer than 110 ballots cast. Lordsburg praises the district as strong and vows continued high standards.
Western Star Temple No 1 installs officers for 1935 on February 11 at 8 PM with Lucia Clark as installing officer. Officers include Maude Hill as Most Excellent Chief and Maggie South as Past Chief, with remarks on a prosperous year and teamwork. Refreshments follow the ceremony.
Dance promoter Ed Clark plans a Saturday night event at the Palador Pavilion featuring The Four Wonders. He promises many surprises for the ladies and a fine evening of entertainment for all, with the event labeled strictly American and another Spanish American dance to be announced later.
The Right Honorable P. J. Mlqueen of Toronto president of the Canadian Olympic Association and a Toronto Harbour Commission member with Mrs Mulqueen and Mrs J T Malady visited the Hotel Hidalgo Wednesday night en route to Los Angeles for talks with athletic bodies involved in the Olympic Games. They praised the Broadway of America transcontinental route.
The Cemetery Association is authorized to collect tabs from Par Washing powder boxes to fund the Cemetery Fund. Boxes will be in all stores for tab deposits, or contact Mrs. Sam Killebrew, committee chair, to arrange pickup.

Seventeen matatas or Indian corn grinders were uncovered on Mrs. J. R. Beavers' property during adobes work for a Virden school house. The granite grinders, pottery fragments, and human teeth indicate a prehistoric race. Charles Beavers displays one at the Chamber of Commerce. further discoveries were noted by A Kronkosky and Fritz A Toeppernwein of Gebhardt Chili Company.
Mrs. Tom Pendleton donated two books this week The Portrait Invisible by Joseph Gollomb and The Woman of Knockaloe by Hall Caine The Junior Literary Guild selection for the month is Trigger John's Son by Tom Robinson Read alouds promise lively happenings and broad appeal.
The Boy Scouts held a buffet supper at the Methodist church Thursday then went to the Studio theatre for the film House Wives. The dinner supported the winning basketball team in the tournament The Owls. A meeting is planned for next Monday evening and the Scouts seek odd jobs.
Mrs B T Cochran hosted a Bridge gathering Wednesday night with members Maurice Eppstein E O Wogstad B T Cochran Chip Porter Glenn Moses and guests Clyde Baker Inez Boswell Tom Blauvelt. Mrs Moses and Tom Blauvelt won high scores and refreshments were served.
Mr and Mrs R B Ownby of Doug las were weekend visitors of Mrs Nora Ownby. They traveled in their new 1935 four door sedan Plymouth car.
The Church of Christ led by Minister T. A. Phillips sets Bible School at 10 a.m. Lord's Supper and Preaching at 11 a.m. Evening preaching at 7 p.m. Midweek service planned for Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m.
A 1945 letter from Red Rock camp in New Mexico details CCC Company 843 erosion control work on the Upper Gila River watershed under Soil Erosion Service supervision. It describes stock tanks, truck trails, water diversion, and erosion dams built to protect rangeland and storage for livestock, noting broad use across the district and commendations of enrollees.

Former county assessor L. A. Bradberry left federal service after January 1 to join Piggly Wiggly as book keeper and store assistant. The move is noted as a return to work and Bradberry is described as having many friends in the region.
Mr and Mrs L N Barksdale and their young son from Nutt New Mexico were Sunday visitors at the ranch home of Mr and Mrs Bob Pride.
Mary Josephine DuMoss of Stevens College Columbus Missouri will join a student excursion in early March. The group will visit New Orleans Cuba Porto Rico Virgin Islands and Panama over a one day period with many Columbia students participating.
Ford Motor Company plans a major educational exhibit at the California Pacific International Exposition in Balboa Park San Diego running from May 29 to November 11. The display will feature industrial agriculture and transportation progress and will include a 3,000-seat amphitheatre with country themed roads along canyon terraces.
