George H. Harding, ex Lordsburg Liberal reporter, will start January 1 with J. R. Wauford and Associates of Lebanon Tennessee as consulting engineer. He previously served since 1949 in the Tennessee Department of Highways as division office engineer, overseeing a standard specs supplement and rewriting maintenance specs. He is a Kiwanis leader and active in Methodist Church work and chairs the Lebanon Planning Commission.

Christmas Matinees Kick Off Festive Season in Lordsburg
In Lordsburg the Coronado Theater hosted two free Christmas matinees for about 850 students from pre kindergarten to high school. The City funded event offered cartoons a short film and a carol sing along led by Roger Brandt with faculty and City Council chaperones distributing popcorn apples and candy.

Christmas Cheer From Elks Brings Joy to 22 Lordsburg Families
Elks Lodge No. 1613 delivered food and toys to 22 Lordsburg families on Christmas Eve. A workshop at the plant repaired and repainted bicycles and toys donated by locals, with Sage and Sand Club volunteers dressing dolls. Dennis Kerr led the drive. Ritter Lumber Co. provided a truck for distribution. Kerr and several members prepared the boxes at the Elks Club rooms.

Alien Address Report Program Under Way Again
Immigration and Naturalization Service district director Richard C Haberstroh says the annual alien address report program is under way. About 66 000 aliens in New Mexico and West Texas reported last year and this year’s total is expected to rise slightly due to population growth. Reports are required by law and noncompliance may bring serious consequences. Forms are available at post offices and immigration offices and staff will assist.

Youth Suffer Burns in Filling Station Fire
Sammie Kitchens a 17 year old youth sustained second degree burns to legs arms and face when gasoline ignited while cleaning brushes at his father’s Highway 70 filling station. He escaped through a wall hole and a restroom door with minor injuries after shedding his burning clothing. Fire damage to the station was about 150 dollars.
