Lordsburg Council Votes For Pay Raise And Airport Deal

Lordsburg city council in regular session on December 20 approved pay raises for councilmen from 20 to 40 dollars monthly, mayor from 150 to 200, and the city judge from 150 to 300, to take effect in March 1990. Supervisors receive a one time 300 dollar increment, other city employees 200 dollars. An airport lease was cut from five to three years, with a SUNY Albany sponsored lighting deco tion system installed at no cost to the city as part of a nationwide network.

Proposed Clothing Store seeks City Assistance

Robin Braziel asked Lordsburg City Council on December 20 to back a $60,000 loan for a quality clothing store. The city would act as grantor for a loan repaid from a prior Urban Development Action Grant loan to Shady Grove Motel.

Lordsburg City Election Set for March 6 1990

Residents will elect four councilmen and a mayor on March 6 1990. Four-year terms end for Linda Schulz W L Sanders Danny Placencia and Freddy Morelos. Holdovers Pansy McDonald Bobby Borrego Chris Musquiz have two years remaining. Mayor Clark Smith's term ends in March. Smith became mayor after Steven Hill moved to Silver City. Prospective candidates may announce any time but must file at City Hall on Tuesday January 9 between 8 AM and 5 PM.

Extra year added to Ballinger murder sentence

Gene Ballinger, convicted of second degree murder for the Pine Conega Ranch shooting death of Warren Uecker near Mule Creek, receives one more year under habitual offender laws. The term runs concurrently with his existing sentence. reduced by good time, release could occur as early as June 1990 or March 1991. Sixth District Judge Lee Wesley presided. Ballinger, 53, formerly of Lordsburg, worked for Lordsburg Liberal before moving to Mule Creek.

Widby Declares Candidacy for Lordsburg Mayor

Virgil Widby a 21 year resident announces his bid for mayor in the March 6 Lordsburg election. He aims to revitalize Motel Drive and shift city leadership to public administration, promising an open door policy at City Hall. Widby retired from 20 years in the U.S. Army in 1968 and currently runs the Coronado Twin Theatre.
