A traveler notes Lordsburg aglow for Christmas as merchants and residents compete with festive decorations. Railroad Avenue and residential blocks shine in colored lights while stores showcase gifts, reflecting a townwide seasonal spirit and efforts to boost trade.
Edwin DeMoss, a Stanford freshman and star center on the Lords team, is in the traveling squad as Stanford prepares for a varsity showdown with John Bunn's team. Coach Wytze Gorter lists a tall starting group, with DeMoss challenging for a first-string post and having rapidly risen to bench-to-starter position.
Christmas Seals donors are named, adding a roster including Mrs Elbert Jones W L Arnold E Holt R W Cureton and others in the latest supplement. The list features numerous residents and local figures across several families and communities.
Patrons of the First National Bank are glad to see Miss Wood back on duty. Wood worked for the bank until 1936 after graduating Lordsburg High School in 1927. She resigned to join Mim Valley Bank of Deming and has been employed there since leaving Lordsburg, now expected to be fed permanently in Lordsburg.
Attendance has been steady on Sundays. The last lesson covered “Christmas ing” and next week’s will address “Ww To Prepare For the New er.” A Bible centered session is planned and Bibles should be brought. A covered dish New Year’s Eve luncheon and party follow the Christ Church schedule.
Ray Edington formerly of Rodeo opens a gas appliance shop in the W. H. Small building on Shakespeare street Lordsburg displays include automatic gas ranges water heaters floor furnaces circulating heaters and floor burners The store also stocks Spartan and Zenith radios Lordsburg welcomes this longtime merchant and his new venture bringing gas dependent business to the city.
Mr and Mrs Glen Moses hosted the Thursday Bridge Club on December 16 evening. Several members were away including Mr and Mrs Joe Sullivan Mr and Mrs HE Scofield Miss Helen Chase Miss Carmichael and the hosts. Miss Chase and Mr Sullivan won high scores. Lemon cream and coconut cream pie with coffee were served by the hostess.
Brief Christmas program on Friday evening at 7 30. Sunday services December 26 feature sermons at 11 00 a m The New Year and at 7 30 p m The Church and Her Mission provided by the Hrimberry Church of Christ with Minister in charge.
Assistant Scout Master Jimmy White with guide Irwin Ewing led a group of scouts including Cal Hill Pred Ewing Charles Crouch Clyde Puller Jimmy Codding Walter Bowers Charles Walters and Claude Allen Broun on a long hike from Lordsburg. They visited Indian caves climbed Pyramid Peak and spent the day exploring crevices and toasting marshmallows after many sandwiches.
Peter DePaolo of Los Angeles stayed at the Hidalgo Hotel in Lordsburg on Saturday night during a cross country trip. The former Indianapolis winner said his racing days are over and his speed days are in the past, while speaking with hotel guests.

Miss Ruth Fisher of the University of New Mexico Albuquerque returned home Friday to spend the Christmas holidays with her parents Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Fisher.
Mrs George Trimble entertained the Nit and Tattle Club members and friends on Tuesday December 21 at the Trimble residence. A detailed Christmas village stage, Nativity scene, four course luncheon, holly themed place cards and candy cups, joke gifts and a hostess poem highlighted a festive year end celebration.
Hidalgo county residents awoke to the first heavy snow of the season, with continued flakes through the next morning. The storm caused minor highway wrecks, diverted tourists, and blanketed Paradise near Cave Creek, while the Lordsburg Airport logged about 0.75 inches of moisture and widespread snow across the region.
The Methodist Missionary Society held a covered dish luncheon in the church undercroft with twenty seven members present. Mrs Charles Puller led a brief business meeting and Mrs Hen Moses was elected superintendent of the Young Wom ens work. Gifts were exchanged and Harvest Day program led by Mrs Bryan Hall.
Port of Entry officials announced the 1938 Operators and Chauffeurs licenses are required by January 1 1938 with fines for noncompliance. Provisional licenses rely on careful driving. reckless driving suspends or revokes licenses. Licenses cost $1 for operators $2 for chauffeurs and plates with the Zila Sun Symbol are available from Montague Townsend Motor Co or Ports of Entry.
Charlene Watkins, oldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Sam Watkins, elected Bun Carnival queen by a wide plurality in El Paso. Col Willard Holt invited to sit in the Watkins box at the West Virginia and Texas Tech football game on New Year’s Day. Secretary to be at the Chamber of Commerce desk on the first business day of the new year.
The W M U of the Baptist church met at Mrs Aubrey Dougherty's home with Mesdames Sam Gass Chas Pease Dell Winters Frank Corbell Felix Jones Willis Lacy and the hostess present. After a mission study fruit salad and cake were served.

County commissioners of Hidalgo acquire a new Allis Haimer road maintainer from Way Machinery Company of Albuquerque. The machine, selected by Commissioners ES Thygerson and J M W McLaod, costs 66 08674 with 8600 credit for old equipment. Three-year payments and annual operating savings cited as main advantages. The unit, operated by one man, replaces an older grader and began work on county roads this week.
Miss Tommie Irene Gee and Mr. Clem Smith Jr were married Thursday of last week. The couple are believed to be in Idaho with no definite address yet. Mrs. Messecar’s daughters Mary and Katherine Messecar from Albuquerque and Silver City joined their mother for the holidays.

Albert Prugel of Deming died at his home Sunday December 70 age a German born immigrant who came to Texas as a youth. He is survived by his widow and seven children including Predora Joe Tinedale August of Menard Robert of Lordsburg John of Coolidge Ernest of Deming and James of Honolulu. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Mahoney Funeral Home with Masonic rites conducted by Rev Carson of the Presbyterian church in Deming.
A small group of Lions met Tuesday noon at the Hidalgo Motel lobby as a Christmas tree lit mood. Four High School Glee Club members—Misseo Lacy Case Virginia Richards Dan George Retton Ganche—sang carols, joined by Lions in the singing. Lion Colonel Willard Holt read carols while recuperating in El Paso, and the meeting decided to dispense after Christmas due to expected member absences.
