Backers push no fault insurance. 15 percent auto premium cut debated

Federal Spends 6.2 Million in Hidalgo County

A 1972 report shows Hidalgo County receiving 6.2 million from federal agencies as part of a 1.72 billion New Mexico total. Major outlays include 1.66 million by a department with 576k for cotton payments and 415k for commodity loans, along with 828k from the Interior and 306k from the VA.

The Lordsburg Fidalgo Chamber of Commerce with business contributions will place lighted decorations at each end of Railroad Avenue. Plans call for adding more each year to make Lordsburg the best decorated town at Christmas in the area.

Lions Club Delivers Gift Packages to Boys Ranch

The Lordsburg Lions Club sent gift packages to the Boys Ranch in Belen. Each boy will receive a pair of Levi's and a shirt. Volunteers wrapping the gifts included Carl Lehman Art Ruiz Rodney Newton Harold Bishop H R Overholt Willis Cooper and Frank Gabriel. Wrapping material came from George Amin. The club thanked Lehman’s Department Store and Amin’s Department Store for their help.

New Mexico School District Elections Begin Preparations

New Mexico school districts prepare for February 6 school board elections. Candidates must file by January 2. Voter registration closes on December 26 at 5 p.m. Absentee ballots go out January 30. Polls open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on election day. Local boards officially take office March 1.

Santa Claus will visit Lordsburg on Saturday December 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office. Parents may bring children to meet him and talk, with a parent or guardian required for every child.

Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument opens for Christmas and New Year from 8 30 AM to 5 00 PM with the visitor center closed on Christmas and New Year's Day The 50 cent user fee is waived on those holidays Fees are collected on weekdays at the visitor center and on weekends at the Cliff Dwellings Temporary bridge in place after October high water damaged the footbridge Visitors are advised to check road conditions and call the Gila Visitor Center at 534 9344 for information
