Christmas Lighting Contest Sponsored by Lordsburg Chamber

The Chamber of Commerce sponsors an annual Kristmas Lighting Contest for city residences and Lordsburg mobile homes. Entrants enter by submitting an official form, display 6 pm to 10 pm on December 23, with prizes of 10 dollars for first and 5 dollars for second in each category.

Ibex Reproducing In Florida Mountains South of Deming

A helicopter census counts 25 Iranian ibex in the Florida Mountains southwest of Deming New Mexico. Fifteen were released two years ago by the Department of Game and Fish and the survey shows reproduction and adaptation. Plans call for at least 20 more ibex to be released in January from Red Rock exotic pasture.

Coronado Theatre Remodeling Underway Ahead of December Reopen

The Coronado Theatre is undergoing extensive remodeling. Seats are removed for repainting and recovering with more space, interior and exterior painting, new screen, and updated rest rooms and foyer. Reopening is set for December 25 with revised admission prices announced for evening and weekend matinees.

Lordsburg Winter Band Concert Sets December 19

Lordsburg Municipal Schools host a winter band concert on Tuesday December 19 1972 at 7 30 p m in the high school Cafetorium. Fifth grade beginning band Dugan Tarango Middle School band and Lordsburg High School band perform Christmas selections. Proceeds aid replacement of lost uniforms with 75 cent adult and 25 cent student admissions and free for preschool children.

The Shady Grove Truck Stop at Road Forks presented a $5000 check to the Lordsburg Elks Lodge for the New Mexico Elks Cerebral Palsy Fund. Management and staff grouped gifts to support cerebral palsy victims, sending appreciation letters from Charles A. McCullough and Richard B. Keifer.

Lordsburg was voted first in Class AA by a coaches board after a 76-70 upset of Class AAA Deming. The Mavericks remain undefeated with four straight wins and carry four of eight first place votes and 73 points, ten behind Mesa Vista.
