The Tragic Rancher Bill Noling 1896 1944

Jessie S. Noling known as Bill, born December 8 1896 died December 16 1944, survived by wife Maud Jeffer son mother two brothers and four sisters. Funeral services at Heather Mortuary with Rev. Poage music by Sam Gass and Tom Mayfield pallbearers listed. Noling spent life in ranching specializing Angora goats and endured paralysis from a childhood spine injury. He avoided government aid during the Depression and left a thoughtful note by P M Ewing about a hoped for eternal ranch life.

The wives of officers at the Lordsburg POW Camp organized a club at a December 7 meeting. Officers elected include Mrs. I. N. Rainbolt as president and Mrs. J. L. McKenna as vice president. The Christmas luncheon on December 19 drew twelve members with festive red and green decor and gifts exchanged.

Suit Filed Over Beverages and Ceiling Prices

The District OPA Office filed a damage suit in Federal Court against Ezra Eitzen a former operator of a tourist court at Albuquerque seeking 615,000 for alleged violation of ceiling prices on cabin rentals during July 1 to September 10 1944. Joe Campanelli of the Blue Eagle Bar at Cimarron was enjoined from selling beer above ceiling prices in a state court decree and Jessie Lou Osborn of the Sweet Shop at Lovington was suspended from selling beer for 15 days by a Federal Court decree in Santa Fe.

A large Christmas celebration is planned for American enlisted men at the Prisoner of War Camp on Friday December 22. The Douglas Army Air Base basketball team will face the Lordsburg Post team to open the festivities followed by a dance. The next night December 23 the American officers will host a party and dance with the Post Orchestra providing music.
