Christmas Decorations Light Up Lordsburg Area

Electrical illuminations brighten homes and businesses as the community showcases extensive Christmas decorations. The Chamber of Lions Club and local merchants led efforts with starred displays at many houses and shops, including A. L. Green Harold Seefield B Robinson Dr Austin homes, and numerous stores. Hospitals and schools also feature festive decor, with miniature trees in rooms at Lordsburg Hospital and decorative pieces around the Court House and other landmarks.

Seagraves Joins Hidalgo Garage Staff

Hidalgo Garage announces J R Bob Seagraves will join the shop and service team December 16 1939 with plans to work after the first of the year. He comes from Watkins Company El Paso and is supported by Bam Watkins president of its Motor Company. Seagraves emphasizes rapid diagnosis modern methods and 24 hour service. Roessler continues as body and repainting specialist. The Hidalgo team includes Gorill is Country On Pablo and others with new inventory of piston rings and mobile parts.

Decoration prizes announced for residences and business houses

A local committee in charge announces prizes for outstanding decorations. First prize is $0.00? second $7.50. third and fourth $3.00. Among Spanish American homes the first prize of $3.00 will receive a second prize of $1.50. The association will present awards in various categories as part of the event.

Boundaries Outlined for New Soil Conservation District

A tentative Animal Soil Conservation District boundary was outlined by a three man committee in the County Agent's office. The district would include most of the Animas valley and the New Mexico portion of the San Simon valley near Rodeo. A petition of 25 landowners will be filed and hearings and a referendum planned to decide if the district is established. If two thirds vote yes, the district becomes a state sub division with access to federal aid and CCC resources for soil building and water conservation.

First Baptist Church Seeks 100 Percent Sunday Attendance

Lions Club honors Florence coach and captain at year-end meeting

The Lions Club held a noon gathering with Florence Arizona basketball coach W. Caywood and captain Alfred Brady as guests of honor. Caywood praised his players and the Florence team’s conduct, while Brady noted four wins this year. The club also discussed funding for annual street lights and shared holiday greetings.

American Legion Auxiliary Hosts State President Dinner

On December 11 Mrs Ruby Pier state president and Mrs Ben Richards rehabilitation chair were entertained at a Lordaburg Legion Auxiliary pot-luck supper hosted by Mrs Moselle Messecar. The Artesia visitors stayed overnight and spoke after the meal gifting a silk New Mexico flag to the unit for meeting quota.

Bachelor Maids Bridge Club Organized in December

The Bachelor Maids Bridge Club formed at Miss Florence Gwartney's home with Miss Mary Louise Noce as co host. Members included Jimmie Ruth Raesener Nellie Jo Swaggart Florence Gwartney Mildred Hill Mildred Swaggart Louise Ball Mary Louise Noce and Gladge Gene Malone. High prize went to Miss Mildred Hill and low to Mixes Louise Ball. A second meeting at Miss Mildred Hill's on December 15 awarded high to Miss Florence Gwartney and low to Miss Mildred Swaggart. Census Supervisors Travel After Albuquerque School

District No. 4 in Deming reports Supervisors Herv Franey and Stella Egan returned from a census school of instruction in Albuquerque. Office staff include R. G Franey and Billie Steed with two stenographic clerks. The enumerator school opens December 26 with field work starting January 2. Local enumerators to be announced soon.

Death of Mrs Dunlap Beloved WPA Engineer

Following a three days rye Mrs FE T Dunlap, beloved of our WPA engineer, passed the higher life at 6:00 Thursday afternoon, December 21. She is survived by her husband and six children. The funeral will be held at Heather funeral home next Sunday afternoon with burial in Mountainview Cemetery.

Joseph A. Bursey, director of the New Mexico State Tourist Bureau, reports Sertsbury set a daily tourist count near 100 percent of capacity, averaging over 90,000 monthly. The only comparable stations were Raton from the northeast corner and Anthery in the state.
