Junior Class Play Wows Crowd At Empire Hotel Stage

The junior class presented a comedy in the Empire Hotel lobby and coffee shop Monday afternoon. Manuel Guerra impressed as the salesman, Betty Been played Sylvia Delaney, Olive Ann Wright as Katrina Haden, and Danny Lee acted as the Telegraph Boy. Coveted credits went to Clyde Been, Nokia Rector, and local sponsors who aided in securing property for the performance.

Unknown Youth Falls Into Coal Chute In Texas Ranch

A sheriff found the body of an unnamed youth about 17 years old near a Texas ranch coal chute. The missing person had a map showing a possible hidden location but no identifying name was recovered.

District Court Hears Appeal Over Police Judge Fees

In Lordsburg on Wednesday December 13 District Judge George W Hay presided over Hidalgo County cases including Minerva Gumfreys appeal challenging police judge costs as illegal. The court ruled fees were unlawful and that collected costs be placed in a separate fund. Judge Numa Frenger planned to rule Friday on Vinson vs Leach.

Bank appoints C G Perry as cashier at Lordsburg

At the board meeting on Tuesday night December 5 the First National Bank of Lordsburg named vice-president C G Perry of Steins as cashier. Perry has acted as manager since T M Glass resigned in October and has long served Hidalgo County as a Steines merchant and bank director with a year as vice-president.

Miss Wheatland to Present Concert in Los Angeles

Miss Helen Wheatland of Los Angeles will present an evening of vocal and devotional music at the Church of Christ on Wednesday December 20 at eight o clock. The program, free with a silver offering, closes the three week evangelistic services led by Evangelist C R Root and Miss Wheatland, who will continue to Los Angeles for a four week meeting with Workmen Street Church of Christ.

The Safford Station KGLU broadcast featured the 4-H Orchestra with Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Cruse praised for organizing the program. Mary Dee Hindman and Terry Williams received standout notices while the studio announced a repeat broadcast next Sunday at three o'clock with the same ensemble and guest talks. The audience in Lordsburg enjoyed the performance and strong reception from KGLU.

Will Organize Soul Conservation District In Animas

At a May meeting of ranchers in Animas the group decided to petition the Governor and others to form a Soil Conservation District under the new law. Attendees included J. W. Traylor state soil conservationist and R. W H. Buevena extension soil conservationist with other state and extension workers. The district would be a legal subdivision to promote farming practices and may access federal aid and loans for equipment and technical support. Mrs Mattie Perkins of Richland Missouri, sister of Mrs H Singer, arrived from California enroute home and will leave Monday.
