Four Prisoners Escape From Hidalgo County Jail
Four inmates escaped at about 4 30 Sunday morning December 16 using a chaseway vent system. They chipped cement from around rebar bent bars and climbed into the heater area then to the roof and onto the Library roof before reaching street level. Names given: Larry Donald Riley 23 Chester Author Bryan III 20 Manuel A Tovar 21 Juan Carlos Torrez Bueno 23. Riley and Bryan were held for armed robbery and aggravated battery. Tovar and Bueno for burglary.

In a special Lordsburg City Council session bids for street paying tied to nearly 500000 dollars in CDBG funds. Southwest Transit Mix of Silver City submitted the low bid 295972.50 beating James Hamilton Construction 337337.77 and Lumas Construction 467274.47. HUD will approve the apparent low bidder before final award. Streets affected include East, Silver, F, B C D E, Maple, Copper, Oak and 2nd. A water meter bid from HJ Reiter Company was 2355 FOB to Lordsburg. Regular meeting moved from January 1 to January 9 at 6 pm.

Santa Claus to Return for Lordsburg Appearances

The Lordsburg Lions Club finalized plans for its annual Christmas decoration contest to judge homes on Christmas Eve between 6 and 10 PM. Three anonymous judges will select the three best homes as winners while a prior donation request to Girl Scouts was declined. The club funded a small unofficial donation instead and delivered two turkeys to Sunshine Haven and local seniors.
