At RV Traylor Elementary School December fund drive 120 students aged 5 to 7 earned 106.48 through chores and small jobs to aid Ethiopian starving children. Teacher Dora Barrio praised teachers and families for supporting a Christmas charity effort highlighting giving.

Stella Moreno Berumen, 36, died in California with services held December 6 and 7 at All Saints Catholic Church. Two Jail Escapees Turn Themselves In
Hidalgo County Sheriff reports two of four escapees from the Hidalgo County Jail on December 16 have surrendered in California. Larry Donald Riley and Chester A. Bryan III face arrest prior to requisition with possible extradition to New Mexico. They were initially arrested for armed robbery at the Bar T Truck Stop in Separ. A Barstow, California stop led to their capture. If they sign waivers, they will be transported back for arraignment. if not, extradition must be pursued.

Lordsburg City Officials Thank Community for 1984 Progress
The City of Lordsburg led by Mayor Pro-Tem Arthur Clark Smith thanks residents in Lordsburg and Hidalgo County for a productive year. In 1985 the city will continue collaboration with State and County governments and the local school system, pursue clean-up campaigns, promote tourism with the Chamber of Commerce, and seek grants and industry.
