Chamber of Commerce Advertises Lordsburg Tourism

The Chamber of Commerce has launched extensive advertising for Lordsburg. Last week ads were sent to the Cleveland Public Library Travel Bureau in Ohio and to the Louisiana Automobile Association in New Orleans. They request local motels and tourist courts to contribute material for the campaign.

Mavericks Unable to Break Losing Streak at Clifton

The Mavericks carded basketball losses to Clifton in a weekend away double with a thin margin. The A squad trailed 13-10 at halftime after a 6-6 start and slipped further as Cliff pulled clear in the third. Lordship’s McAlister added five points to push the score to 21 before Cliff extended the lead in the final period.

Christmas Carols To Ring Out Over Lordsburg

Christmas carols will ring out over Lordsburg during the Yuletide season as K C Holl¢man and Paul Marrott set up an amplifying system in the police building on Railroad Ave. Bob Harwood provides the records free of charge. Police staff operate the record player with full cooperation from the Chamber of Commerce city officials and police department.

Christmas Home Decoration Judging Sunday

Notify the Chamber of Commerce by Saturday noon December 22 to ensure participation in the Christmas home decorations contest. Four prizes are offered: $10 first, $7.50 second, $4.54 third, and $2.50 fourth. Judging occurs Sunday night December 23 between 7 and 8 pm by uninterested judges, possibly tourists.

Two Killed in Auto Accidents This Week

Two persons died in separate traffic crashes this week with one injury reported. Mrs Bessie Stoddard 58 of Encino California was fatally injured Sunday at 11 50 am on state road 14 at Steins. Lester J Blackie Claunch of this city was instantly killed Monday at 1 35 pm after losing control of a 1946 Ford pickup and crashing into a canyon south of Virden bridge. J E Ellington Sr is noted as involved in the third incident.

Lions Club Attendance Contest Ends December 15

Lordsburg Lions Club wrapped up a three month attendance competition between Team B led by Dr J H Baxter and Team D led by Glen Dorsett. Dorsett owes Baxter a steak dinner after a close race with the same meal planned for the losers. Regular meetings pause for holidays and resume January 8 under President Eugene Romney Jr.

Selective Service Office Holiday Hours

Beginning Monday December 24 and ending Saturday January 5 the Selective Service office will open only on Wednesday Thursday Friday and Saturday during the holiday season.

Free Theatre Show For Children On Mon Dec 24

City children and parents are reminded of a free theater party for the kids hosted by the 1st National Bank and Coronado Theatre management on Monday December 24. Doors open at noon with a continuous show and Lions Club members serve as ushers.

Legion Aux White Christmas Party Planned for Dec 15

The American Legion Auxiliary hosted a White Christmas party at the Legion hall on Saturday night December 15 for Legionaire husbands and guests. Mrs Harold Scofield directed the event with praise, and Mrs Ross Kindred organized the holiday motif. Card winners included Jack Morgan and Dr F G Behmlander among the men and Mrs John Fogarty and Mrs Ralph Clifford among the women.

Merchants Use Liberal Ads To Wish Yuletide Cheer

In Lordsburg The Liberal prints holiday greetings from city merchants to patrons and the public. Advertisers were not able to contact all businesses this week. A New Year ads drive will follow next week. merchants not reached may notify The Liberal by Wednesday noon for placement.

Elks Club Christmas Party Lights Up Tuesday Eve

The Elks Club hosted a seasonal Christmas dance Tuesday evening, featuring the Western Jubbeers from Hollywood and two bright Christmas trees for the orchestra setting. Walter Dunagan served as decoration chairman, helping create a festive mood and highlight of the club’s year.

Frontier Airlines Discontinues Two Flights

Frontier Airlines says trips 81 and 82 from Lordsburg are ended effective Dec 20 1951 due to light passenger load and excessive costs. Flight 82 to El Paso departs at 7 56 a m and Flight 81 to Phoenix at 11 59 a m, with service on Route 93 to Phoenix El Paso continuing.
