Xmas Program at PTA Meeting Speaker and Program

Mrs Alice M Ramirez field librarian from the State Library Extension at Santa Fe will be guest speaker at the PTA meeting in the high school auditorium on Monday Dec 17 at 7 30 pm. She will discuss books for children and books in the home. A Christmas program includes The Birds Christmas Carol Cities Dickens performed by high school students. Central school glee club will sing carols. A social hour with coffee and doughnuts follows.

Lordsburg Lions Sponsor March of Dimes Drive

The Lordsburg Lions Club will sponsor the March of Dimes drive starting January 3 1952 with H H Bryant as chairman. Donations fund treatment centers trained physicians nurses and physiotherapists for polio in need and provide equipment like respirators and hot packs. Hidalgo County has been lightly touched but the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis would assist in an epidemic.

Postmaster Eugene Montague warns against loitering in the postoffice lobby after 6 p m. and reports juvenile thefts from mailboxes including a broken box with mail on the street. He says federal offenses carry heavy penalties and threatens lobby closure at 6 p m if protection fails.

The Civil Aeronautics Board docketed a case with Frontier Airlines Inc for renewal of route 98 affecting Lordsburg. Frontiers petitions to intervene have been sent to Washington. If steps are not taken Lordsburg may not be recognized as a stop. The airline provides vital travel mail and air express services and connects Lordsburg with a wide region.

Local Merchants Donate to Animas Valley Building

Lordsburg merchants and individuals contribute to the Animas Valley Community building fund. The project repaires an old bar racks building moved to a five acre site donated by Mrs. Esther P. Wood, about 1.5 miles south of the church. Major donors include Lordsburg National Bank 100, Up To Date Grocery 50, Ritter-Walker 25, and Miller Chew 7.50.
