Cobre Indians defeated dsburg 46 to 23 in a drought game. Arredondo led with 15 points on seven from floor and one foul shot. Garcia added 12 for the visitors with four from the floor and four free throws. Free throws were the deciding factor as the ns hit 12 of 23. Mavericks face ng Wildcats at Deming before the Deming tournament at City on Jan 10-11.

Christmas Party at Elsie Lee's Needle and Thimble Club

The Needle and Thimble Club held its annual Christmas party Monday night at Elsie Lee's. A turkey dinner was served and the table featured white cloths with green and gold china, green foliage, and red runners. Gifts were exchanged amid festive carols sung from the back of the room. Members attending included Mrs M Chase, Mrs Charles Full, Mrs Carrie Finley, Mrs George Trimble, Mrs A L am, Mrs W P Hill, Mrs C Martin, Mrs M Messecar, Emma Culp, Mrs Mary Dee, and Mrs Chandler Hill.

PTA Meeting Highlights Moral Implications Panel

PTA session at the high school Monday evening moderated by Mrs Allen featured a panel on Moral Implications of [topic]. Roger dt served as narrator with Carl White Miss Rankin Rev Dan Ber Allen Hill Roberta xter and Lynn Richard on the panel. Grade mothers supplied coffee cokes and cookies.

Elks Prepare Christmas Baskets and Dinner Dance

The Elks host a venison and ribs dinner and Christmas dance on Saturday night. Dinner is from 7 to 9, with admission by a can or cans of food for needy families. Guests are welcome.

Local Legionnaires Aid Veterans With Tax Exemption Help

Robert Swan Post No. 30 of The American Legion in Lordsburg announces Legionnaires named to assist veterans in preparing tax exemption claims. They will staff City Hall on Wednesdays 7 to 9 PM and can be reached by telephone. Eligible veterans must show honorable discharge and 90 days service in specified conflicts with residency dates prior to set deadlines.

Band Parents Plan Auction to Help Band Visit

The Band Parents Club met in the Band Room with Mrs. Ruth Bishop presiding. They plan an auction sale to raise funds to bring Dr. Frank Simon of the University of Arizona to Lordsburg for two days of teaching and directing the band. Donors may call Roger Brandt or Mrs. Ena Mitchell to arrange pickup of items.

J Vearle Payne Sworn In As District Judge

Lordsburg attorney J Vearle Payne was sworn in as district judge of the Sixth Judicial District in Hidalgo County. Santa Fe judge David W Carmody administered the oath to a crowded courtroom while Payne’s daughter Ruth Palmer stood by. Payne, a long-time New Mexico resident and former state legislator, has held legal and public service roles including House speaker and state tax attorney, and serves on the board of regents for New Mexico Western College.

Lordsburg Lions Club and the Coronado Theater plan a free kids matinee next Tuesday December 24 from 1 30 p m to 5 30 p m at the Coronado Theater. The theater provides pictures Lions Club supplies popcorn Romney Produce Co donates apples for about 700 expected youngsters.

Christmas Program Presented by Lordsburg Schools

The Lordsburg Junior and Senior High Schools will present their annual Christmas program this evening at 7 30 in Central School gym. Admission is free and the public is invited. The program features The Christmas Story narrated by Robert Clark with Roger Brandt directing. Junior and senior high choruses perform O Holy Night and Sing Gloria. The wind ensemble, sixth grade glee club and senior vocalists join in with soloists and multiple ensemble groups.

VEW Fourth District Meeting in Bayard Sees Christmas Party

The 4th District VFW met Sunday in Bayard at 2 p.m. A Christmas party followed with gift exchanges and games won by Frances Sanchez. Inez Hood served a Mexican plate lunch and coffee to visitors. Next meeting set for January 16.
