CCC WORKER FOUND DEAD IN WEST YARD CRISIS
Milton J. Bean a 20 year old CCC worker from Los Angeles was found December 11 in the west railroad yards with his head severed in an apparent act of self harm. The sheriff's office empaneled a coroner's jury before Judge Marsalis and later identified the deceased by fingerprints. The body is being held for relatives.

The New Mexico Cattle Growers Association holds its third quarterly executive board meeting in Roswell on December 17 at Chavez County Court House. George Weaver of Washington DC will discuss livestock growers’ role in the nation’s war effort, with other speakers from El Paso Deming and Silver City. Mrs Claude Sanders hosted a festive Christmas party for the American Legion Auxiliary at her home with greenery and poinsettias. Prizes were awarded to Grace Wright Ena Walter Ridley Scott Alma Carson and Emaline Richards won a guessing contest. Santa distributed gifts and a supper followed. A large sled centerpiece with Santa and Mias Liberty decorated the table. The event featured national and Auxiliary colors and perfumed satin nosegays. A committee was named to solicit 5000 dollars in Series E Defense Bonds before January 1 1942 and buyers may subscribe for additional 5000 in 1942.

Death of J. H. Moorhead at Animas Texas native pioneer
Pearl Harbor J. H. Moorhead was found dead in his bed on December 11. The funeral at Heather Funeral Home featured a sermon by Rev. F. H. Poage and music by local performers. Burial followed in Mountainview Cemetery. Born in 1865 in Texas, he married Elizabeth Turman in 1901 and later lived in Red Rock New Mexico before moving to Animas in 1918 with his family. He was regarded as a well known pioneer of the region.

Bishop Bartlett Killed in Automobile Crash Near Idaho Falls
The Rt. Rev. Frederick B. Bartlett, temporary Bishop for the Episcopal Missionary Jurisdiction of New Mexico and southwest Texas, died when his car overturned near American Falls Idaho. New York Woman Survives Tucumcari Train Wreck
Rebecca Morningstar of New York arrived in Lordsburg for a visit to her daughter Mrs. R B Buvens and Dr. Buvens. She was aboard the Tucumcari wreck where seven other cars left the tracks and 37 passengers were hospitalized but with no serious injuries. Morningstar, on her fifty fifth cross country trip, escaped harm due to being briefly awake and partially undressed when the accident occurred at 4 a.m.
