Seattle youths nabbed in Las Cruces car theft case

Information from Mrs. Tibbs and Sheriff Dick Rich led to the arrest of John, 90, and Fred George of Seattle for stealing a 1954 Oldsmobile and luggage trailer. Police recovered the car near Lordsburg after the thieves abandoned contents and fled west on Highway 80. Kerr pasture and Mrs. Bear Dunkerson aided in locating items and providing tips.

Lordsburg Chorus Presents Annual Christmas Program

The Lordsburg Community Chorus will stage its 2nd annual Christmas program Sunday December 19 at 4 00 PM in the High School Auditorium Narration by Rev Anson of the Church of Christ returns The event drew favorable comments last year and will feature mostly the same pieces with added numbers Directed by Roger Brandt and sponsored by the Lordsburg Woman's Club Organization.

Scouts Held Court of Awards at PTA meeting

A Court of Awards was held during the regular PTA meeting at the high school. Bluebird Troop 8 and Wild Rose Troop 8 received pins listed with names of recipients. Proficiency and First Class badges were awarded by several volunteers to multiple scouts including Rachel Estrada and Mary Lynn Dockum.

Rubinoff and his Stradivarius engage in a high tempo concert day touring the nation. On January 14 1955 he plays at the High School as part of a nine month circuit visiting about 125 cities with hundreds of concerts and free appearances for service clubs hospitals and schools.

Eight Residents Finish Course In Clothing

Eight adults completed the Bishop Method of Clothing course at the high school with an evaluation meeting on November 50. Miss Effie Manning taught the class, finishing under Mrs. Edna Bryte Bishop's instruction last summer.

Post Office Holiday Hours And Stamp Tips

The local post office announces Christmas card rates for local and distant deliveries and lists special Saturday and Christmas day hours. On December 18 the office opens 8 AM to 6 PM, and on Christmas Day from 10 AM to noon for package handouts only. Postmaster Eugene Montague urges patrons to know stamp numbers and denominations and to memorize box combinations for faster service.

Local residents skip Christmas cards for charity

A small group led by Louise and Jack Morgan will not mail local Christmas cards this year. They donate the saved funds to the March of Dimes and other worthwhile charities.

The chamber will award three prizes for residential lighting and decoration. First prize $10. Second prize $5. Third prize $2.50. Judging is on December 23. Turn on lights at dark and keep them burning until at least 10 p.m. to participate.

Free Holiday Movie For Hidalgo County Children

The Hidalgo County Lions Club sponsors a free kids movie day at the Coronado Theatre on Thursday December 23 with 1:00 and 3:00 showings. Donations from Lions Club members and B. Mr. Kimbley cover popcorn costs, Romney Produce Co. supplies apples, and Edgar Sowell leads volunteers to chaperone.

Dormitory at Boys Ranch Nears Completion

Volunteers will finish a new $35,000 dormitory at Boys Ranch providing housing for 40 boys, increasing capacity to 75. Donation-driven building with Albuquerque firms supplying furniture and plumbing. Fund drive aims for $20,000 locally and $20,000 statewide, with drives in Carlsbad, Silver City, Deming, Clovis, Hatch, Peeotales, Lordsburg, Roswell and others.

The Lordsburg Municipal Schools will dismiss at the close of school Friday December 17 for the Christmas holidays. Classes resume Monday morning January 3.
