Downey Funeral Held Wednesday
William C Downey 80 died last Sunday at Hidalgo County Hospital after weeks of illness. A retired Southern Pacific employee he lived at Hotel Hidalgo since his wife Margaret Daley Downey died in 1940. Survived by son Thomas, two brothers a sister two grandchildren and a great grandchild. Funeral 2:00 p m Heather Mortuary with Rev Paul Hively. Knights of Pythias graveside rites.

Two Killed in Auto Crash Near Separ
Luther Lee Brown aged 59 and his 9 year old son Donald died in a head on collision Tuesday afternoon twenty two miles east of Lordsburg on Highway 70 80. Sheriff W B Medley of Fort Davis Texas in the other car was injured and is hospitalized. One son John was critically hurt and Mrs Brown and two young daughters suffered injuries. The Tuesday wreck was investigated by Patrolman Jon Bradford and Sheriff Oscar Allen. Heather Mortuary ambulance assisted.

Lordsburg Doctor Killed in Highway Tragedy
Dr. C B Austin 57 a Lordsburg physician died Sunday night near Lordsburg when his car struck by a Braswell Motor Freight Co truck driven by Alfred D Letcher of El Paso. He was changing a flat tire after which his wife and Mrs Thelma Ross sought assistance. Letcher said glare from an approaching car blinded him. No charges were filed. Dr. Austin born 1891 in Cabot Arkansas trained at Loyola Chicago and served as a Major in WWI before moving to Lordsburg. He helped found Lordsburg Hospital with his brother Dr C Paul Austin in 1921.

Santa Claus Visits Lordsburg for Christmas Eve Event
A large crowd welcomed Santa in Lordsburg on Friday evening. He arrived by plane to the Municipal Airport and was escorted to the Christmas tree on the Fire Engine. The Lordsburg High School Band and Bradberry Sisters performed as lights were turned on. Santa invited letters to be mailed to care of the Chamber of Commerce and promised to reply as time allows. Apples were given to children before he departed for the North Pole. Harwood Music Company placed loudspeakers on Railroad Avenue for downtown carol enjoyment. George Harding served as master of ceremonies.
