Maddox Funeral Thursday Afternoon

Funeral services for Holmes Maddox who died Wednesday at his home on Texas Avenue are set for Thursday at 3 00 p m at Heather Mortuary. Rev David E Moore will preach and the Masonic Lodge will conduct graveside rites with lodge members as pallbearers. Maddox was an early settler in the area arriving in the 1880s. A complete obituary will appear next week in the Liberal.

Community Christmas Tree Donations Sought in Lordsburg

Lordsburg firemen sponsor the Community Christmas tree and urge donations. Coins can be placed in boxes at city stores or given to Fire Chief Dr. J. H. Baxter, Mr. Oxsheer at city hall, or the Lordsburg Liberal office. Funds cover tree expenses for the children of Lordsburg.

Street Lights Breakings Prompt Curfew Consideration

Police report over 25 street lights damaged in the past week by a mob of young boys. Witnesses cannot identify individuals. Chief Sanchez urges parental cooperation to curb vandalism or a curfew may be requested.

Lions Entertain At Ladies Night

Lions club hosted a Turkey dinner for fifty-nine members and guests at the Woman's Club building on December 2 with music by Harvey Breaks and Roger Wells, carols by the club quartet, and H Vearle Payne delivering the main address.

Santa Claus to Turn On Lights Friday Evening

Santa will make a special Lordsburg visit to switch on the Christmas lights along city streets. The Lordsburg High School Band will perform on the S. P. depot parking lot with additional numbers planned though not fully listed at press time.

Carolers From Baptist Church To Sing Christmas Eve

The Training Union and church choir of First Baptist Church will sing Christmas carols on Christmas Eve at 7 30 p m at the church. Shut ins or ill residents may call 54 to request carolers at their home and invites all city residents to enjoy the free service by inviting the singers.

Dinner Party for Wednesday Sewing Club Guests

New Mexico A and M Dean Addresses Lions Club Hymn Sing

Wm O Donnell Dean of Students at New Mexico A and M College spoke at the Lions Club luncheon about proposed state educational reforms. He described a constitutional amendment replacing elected state superintendent with a governor appointed nine member board and a state board of regents for higher learning to streamline policy.
