Pheasant Season Opens Across New Mexico With Crane Hunts
Pheasant season starts statewide on Saturday December 10 with a bag limit of three cocks per day and runs through December 13. The second experimental sandhill crane season runs December 16 to 18 in the Uvas Valley near Hatch and south of Deming, with three cranes per permit. A third crane season is January 13 to 15.

The bulletin notes Quemado Lake is frozen and unfishable from banks or boats. Wall Lake and Bill Evans Lake offer fair to good fishing with fireballs and waterdogs. Snow Lake remains good for fireballs, corn and small spinners from shore. Ranch Grande Ponds are excellent on all cut bait. Gila River sections vary from good to excellent depending on reach, with small streamers, small silver lures, and wolly worms, marshmallows, and salmon eggs used. Roads stay muddy and some areas icepacked.
