Hidalgo County and the City of Lordsburg receive Law Enforcement Assistance Funds from Region I New Mexico. Hidalgo County Sheriff Leroy McCarty announced allocations of 8705.63 dollars for an extra deputy a new vehicle a mobile radio and narcotics testing gear. Lordsburg police get 3741 dollars to hire an extra officer buy a vehicle and acquire investigative equipment to cut burglaries and larcenies by 20 percent. Overall 20 fund requests totaling 516859.32 were approved with state totals rising since 1970.
