Trucks at Road Forks Overweight Checks Report

Road Forks testing station in New Mexico recorded 666 trucks weighed from December 9 to 12. Fifty seven were overloaded and cited, with fines mostly at 106.50. 154550 pounds were unloaded or redistributed from overloaded loads to meet weight limits.

The American Legion Auxiliary thanks donors for poppy seal purchases, including Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gay and Mayor Charles Martin. Funds bought Christmas ecards for uncompensated Fort Bayard veterans, with fifty packets of four ecards and stamps sent to the fort tess who will distribute them to fifty veterans at Christmas.

Rodeo Light Plant Burns at Local Tavern

Late Tuesday night a fire of unknown origin destroyed the electric light plant at the rodeo tavern. People in a nearby trailer house spotted the flames and alerted the manager. The plant owned by H. A. Kolmar was a total loss but insured.

Merchants Offer Prizes in Lordsburg Christmas Trophy Race

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Christmas trade promotion with a Trophy Race beginning Friday night when Santa and his reindeer visit at 7:30. Each merchant donates three prizes labeled with numbers. Tickets are sold by participating stores and winners check numbers at displays. The race runs through Saturday December 23. Merchants can obtain tickets from the Chamber of Commerce.

The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce will award prizes for home Christmas decorating with $10 first, $7.50 second, $5 third, and $2.50 fourth. A committee of uninterested persons and possibly tourists will judge on Sunday evening December 24. Contestants should phone 49-J to enter.

Santa Claus to Visit Lordsburg with Reindeer

Santa and his four reindeer will arrive in Lordsburg at 7 30 p m December 15 riding behind Donder Blitzen Dancer and Prancer along Railroad avenue. The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce invites all residents of Lordsburg and Hidalgo county to greet Santa as he brings Christmas greetings to young and old. Lt and Mrs Benny Everetts of Fort Bliss visited town to see his mother and sister over the weekend.
