Badgett Elected President of Hidalgo County Chamber

Wordsburg Hidalgo County of Commerce board met Monday night to elect Padgett as the new president after Jeffus resigned. Freeburg presented a plaque honoring Jeffus for his long service and leadership since joining the chamber in 1916.

Lordsburg High School to Welcome Atomic World Exhibit

Lordsburg High School hosts a special program Friday featuring the Atomic World exhibit by the Energy Commission. A morning assembly will present the exhibit and introduce visitors to nuclear energy founded by Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies.

New Armory Dedication and Santa Calls at Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Armory dedication occurred Wednesday with Maj. Gen. Charles G. Sage presiding and Capt. Bennie Everett as master of ceremonies. Officials including George P. Jeffus and Mayor B. M. Kimbley attended. a ribbon cutting opened the building followed by a public inspection and a turkey and ham meal. Santa Claus will be reachable at the local telephone office 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday for children aged one to eight accompanied by a parent. Capt. Everett sent word Governor Simms was ill and could not attend.

Lions Club Presents Christmas Party At Coronado Theatre

The Coronado Theatre hosts the Lions Club annual Christmas party for children on Friday December 21. The show titled Overland Telegraph includes a comedy and two cartoons with two complete performances from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Lions Club sponsors will give each child a surprise at the event.

Local Dairy Queen Chief Donates $10 to Lordsburg Bus Fund

R H Gale operator of the Dairy Queen in Silver City contributed ten dollars to Lordsburg High School to support a new bus for school activities. Coach Ralph Craig was in Silver City for a basketball game when Gale handed the check after hearing about the drive.

Mavericks Lose Two After Weekend Defeats

Lordsburg Mavericks were defeated in two weekend games. The varsity fell 50 to 47 to Western Colts of Silver City as John Arredondo led with 10 points. The Mavericks B team built a big lead but allowed a late rally, closing with a narrow win for the Colts B.
