The Animas P-TA met November 14 at Animag school with pledges and readings. Louise Veck and Louis Dayton presented reports as Girl Stater and Hay Stater, Ada Walters was elected treasurer, refreshments by sophomore mothers, next meeting set for December 12 at 7 pm featuring a program by Rev. C L Wiggins on conserving the spirit of Christmas.

Mavericks Edge Hachita Rams In Season Opener
Lordsburg Mavericks opened the season with a 35 to 29 basketball win over the Hachita Rams as Byron Stiles led with nine points and Oscar Diaz eight. The Rams were led by Tallman with eight as Hachita claimed a 12-12 halftime tie before the Mavericks pulled away in the second half. Junior High also won 26-14. Next games feature Western Colts and Cliff trip to come.

Hidalgo County Tuberculosis Association marks its 50th Christmas Seal Sale with calls to redouble efforts against TB. Mrs. Margaret Powell urges forward planning and community action as children in 1956 seals symbolize hope for better treatment and reduced TB deaths. Separately Lordsburg to get a new super highway with bids set for January 25, 1957, width to 72 feet, widening land from Southern Pacific right of way.

Joss D. Weir of Lordsburg spoke at the Geronimo District annual meeting in Deming. Spencer Baird presided as officers were installed including Maurice Conner as district chairman and multiple vice chairmen from Silver City Deming Lordsburg and Santa Rita. Local Officers Stop Stolen Car Suspects Near Lordsburg
The sheriff alerted units about 5 p m Tuesday to a light colored Oldsmobile with a Texas plate heading toward Lordsburg. A green Pontiac was traced on the Gold Hill road where occupants were arrested. Virgil Cleveland of Texas and Archer Mitchell of Ohio were identified. Cleveland had a stolen Pontiac and is held for Hugo Oklahoma officials. Mitchell was released after search uncovered two pistols. The Olds remains unfound.
