The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce will prize four homes for Christmas lighting. Prizes are 10 dollars, 7.50 dollars, 1.00 dollar and 2.50 dollars. Judging will be by an impartial committee, possibly tourists, with date to be announced. A Christmas atmosphere spreads in the business district and a community tree stands near the viaduct.
Charles Barrett of Albuquerque served as Elks memorial speaker on Sunday afternoon. His son, Attorney Robert Barrett, attended as family member. The event featured a choir and a pianist, with several local residents among the musicians.
Paul J. Deyo of Colebrook New Hampshire has joined Conder's Jewelry as the new watch repairman and began duties on Monday. He has 34 years in the watch repair business and lives with his wife at All State Court. Their son operates a seaplane base in White Stone Long Island. Deyo succeeds Ronald Teddick who left for Tucson Arizona to work in a defense plant.
Principal B. B McA announces the sale of 1952 high school annuals. Students and others should place deposits with Billy Steele, Mary Lou Brown or Rocardo Brito before Christmas vacation. Annuals will be printed by last year’s publisher and include class articles, school activity features, and merchant advertisements. Mrs. Marie Moon was in El Paso on a business trip.
Clem's O K Tire Shop has moved to the Yucca Motor building. Mr Pochela took over the business from A O Blanscet last May. Blanscet moved north and has returned to operate a business there.
The American Legion Auxiliary met in regular session at the Legion hall on Monday night December 3. Mrs. Alma Case district president presided and new members were initiated by Miss Jonell Dunagan and others. The group thanked pot luck organizers and discussed future events including a White Christmas party and a cross of poppies for Fred Johnston. A district address highlighted rehabilitation and child welfare work. Several members planned a December 5 trip to Fort Bayard to assist in the Gift Shop.
J. A. Jones of the U S Air Force spent a few days this week with his parents Mr and Mrs E L Jones and was a guest at the Bounds ranch home of his brother and sister in law Mr and Mrs E L Jones Jr.
Frontier Airlines introduces two additional daily services starting December 1. Flight 82 leaves Lordsburg at 7:56 AM with stops in Silver City Deming and Las Cruces reaching El Paso at 9:31 AM. Flight 84 departs Lordsburg 12:56 PM arriving El Paso 2:31 PM with same intermediate stops.
Lordsburg Mavericks basketball team starts the 1951 52 season with a double header against Duncan. The B team plays at 7 00 p m and the main game at 6 20 p m. Richard Brito Louis Alvarez return as starters with several new bids for roles on coach Pharr s squad.
Mrs. Harry Scofield and granddaughter Patsy Crouch hosted Mr. and Mrs. Alan A. Koff Mr. and Mrs. Harold Scofield Connie Hal and Miss Marshallene Goodsell for dinner on Thanksgiving evening.
The duck season opens at noon on Monday December 17 and runs through Saturday January 5. Hours are from 1–2 hours before sunrise to 1 hour before sunset. The daily limit is five ducks and the possession limit is ten after the first day.
About 15 Lordsburg cars, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, met the U S Highway 70 Cavalcade east of the city on November 29. The Lordsburg High School band escorted them to the courthouse center, where a brief program planned for the courthouse was pared down as the schedule shifted to include a Lordsburg breakfast. Barbara Rhoades, 17, of Safford, Arizona as the U S 70 Hospitality Queen led the procession toward Treasure Trail before the group dispersed for breakfast and continued to Safford.
Alan A. Koff of Southwest Supply Co. converts his East Railroad Ave. building into a Farm and Town store serving Hidalgo County with home furnishings. The 130 foot long building offers electrical appliances, rugs, furniture, window shades, toys, and more with plans for future additions.
Father Kennedy of St. Joseph's Catholic Church announces the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday with Masses at 8 and 9 a m, and all Catholics are urged to attend.
The 1952 March of Dimes Drive opens January 3 marking the fourteenth anniversary of the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. County campaign director H H Bryant appeals for volunteers for a month long drive starting January 1 1952 with local appointments for committees and activities to reach a larger number of people than ever before.
The Elks Club hosts a Western Jubilee Tuesday evening December 16 starring Tommy Holden The Dude Swingsters Little Eva and the Clumsy Cousin with floor show and dance to harvest time rhythms. The Western Jubilee cast has appeared on NBS radio and television and in Columbia pictures.
R. M. Reynolds was in town on business this week from his ranch on the Blue river in Arizona.
