Gila Man Seeks Unified Water Request From Commission

Arthur Ocheltree of Gila urged Hidalgo County Commissioners to apply to the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission for 4500 acre feet of Gila River water. He proposed equal sharing among Hidalgo Grant Catron and Luna counties after Central Arizona Project delivers about 18000 acre feet to New Mexico. He noted current Catron County applications for 4500 acre feet and argued mining in Grant County should not monopolize water. He favored irrigation and potential industry growth in Lordsburg and discussed potential dam sites. Commissioners asked for more information and directed County Manager Tommy Anderson to pursue the request. A local Industrial Development Committee report said new industry would not claim immediate credit and sought commissioner endorsement.
