The 14 mile stretch of State Road 9 from Pas to U S 80 is undergoing major work by the State Highway Department. Crews will add oil surface and perform grading drainage to widen and upgrade the road. Work moved to Animas after weather paused activity near Mogollon.
In Albuquerque, Internal Revenue Service official Donald T. Hart notes calendar year corporations must pay the fourth installment of their 1964 estimated tax by December 15, 1964. The due amount is 25 percent of the year’s estimated tax. More details available from the IRS.
A basketball league is planned again this year with entry open to teams. Submit a roster of up to Ma players to Arlan Ropp or dim Rusk by December 16. Teams must be willing to referee or score games if assigned.

The Soil Conservation Service in New Mexico releases a 1964 accomplishments summary detailing work by the Service through the Soil and Water Conservation Districts and landowners. It highlights rangeland deferment, conservation cropping on irrigated cropland, residue plowing, land leveling, ditch lining, and water management. The Lordsburg Animas and Virden Valley districts lead efforts with Hidalgo County cooperation and Radiological Monitoring readiness.

District 7 fall meeting of the American Legion and Auxiliary convened in Central New Mexico with Department Commander Staley in attendance. Mrs Brooks gave a Christmas devotional. a luncheon and banquet followed. Civil Defense talk by Mr Meadows impressed attendees.
Harold Bealmer from Cut Bank Montana, staying at Alamo Court, failed to report to Wunsch Harvesting Contractors on Monday. Police fear foul play after he was last seen Saturday around 11 am by his employer at the Leslie Farm in Pyramid Valley. He had about 200 to 300 dollars, left his personal items in the motel, and was described as a white man 40 to 45, 5'9" and 140 pounds.
Clarence Evans was named local chairman of the Lions Eye Bank by Gilbert Buvens during the weekly Lions meeting. Evans, a school system teacher, announced the eye donation project. The program featured L. H. S. music students directed by Gene Rogers with several solo and ensemble performances.
Lordsburg student Eloisa Madrid has been chosen as citizen of the month for leadership dependability scholarship and citizenship. She participates in FTA national honor society parliamentarian of FHA and the annual staff while maintaining a high academic record.
