Lordsburg Band Gains Boost at District Mu Ge Clinic

Lordsburg High School band, led by Abmo Parotti and then William Rhodes, delivered solid performances at the District Music Clinic in Las Cruces. The audience, mostly local high school players, praised the band after student inquiries about State Band auditions.

Lordsburg Battery C Leads NM National Guard in Inspections

Battery C of the 716th AAA Battalion, Lordsburg, tops all New Mexico Guard units in 1952 and 1953 Technical Inspections by the 4th Army Ordnance. MSgt. Waldo P. Wilder credited for the unit’s record as it expands to independent artillery capability. The unit invites local men to join and serve at home, highlighting its role in air, tank, and troop defense.

Economic Disaster Loans Available To Ranchers In New Mexico

Farmers and ranchers in New Mexico can apply for Economic Disaster Loans announced by J. Roy Miller FHA County Supervisor in Deming. The program designates New Mexico as an economic disaster area effective November 19, 1953, with loans up to cover operating expenses farm and ranch equipment repair and irrigation improvements at 3 percent interest, contingent on local FHA committee approval.

Mavericks Lose Two Games Over Weekend

The Lordsburg Mavericks dropped both non-conference road games against Duncan and Douglas. Jacobson led Duncan with 24 points, while Smith paced Lordsburg with 25 in Friday’s loss. The Community Chorus will hold final rehearsals on December 14 and 16 at 7:00 PM in the band room. The Cantata is set for Sunday December 20 at 4:00 PM.

Former Lordsburg Man Shot in Hunting Accident

Blaine Morrison, former Lordsburg resident and art teacher, was accidentally shot by W. J. Moore while bear hunting near the Hatchett Mountains. Morrison, hit in the head and concussed, received surgery in Albuquerque and is recovering. Moore pleaded guilty to careless rifle handling, fined fifty dollars, and lost hunting privileges for ten years.
