Gas Line Explosion Near Separ Sparks Fire Fight
An El Paso Natural Gas pipeline blowout 11 miles southeast of Separ near U S 70 sparked a large fire. State police and deputies from Lordsburg Deming and Silver City rushed to the scene as a gas crew shut off flow. About fifty to sixty locals from Lordsburg area gathered, with initial reports placing the fire near Rex and Mrs. Kipp's ranch home, later corrected to a site several miles east.

Star Sgt. Jimmy McCommis son of Mrs Ida McCommis formerly of this city arrived Tuesday from Japan where he served in the Air Force over two years. He resumes his old job at Embery Jewelry and Appliance Store and will stay as guest of Mr and Mrs C E Embrey. He has made Lordsburg his home since 1933 and graduated Lordsburg High in 1948. He expects discharge from Randolph Field Texas in eight months and to continue living in Lordsburg. His aunt Mrs Tom Wright and sister Mrs Jack Humble also reside here.

The Pine Cone Patrol invited the Blue Bird Patrol to a Christmas party at the Legion Hall on Friday evening December 11 at 7 00 PM. About forty five members and guests attended as girls played games sang carols and enjoyed refreshments. The patrol thanks Bob Williams for hall use K C Holleman and Paul Malott for music and the parents who helped.

Local Grad Richard Varela Injured in Car Wreck Near Jolla
Richard Varela son of Mr and Mrs W D Garcia of Ashfork Arizona sustained minor injuries when his car was side swiped and demolished near Jolla New Mexico as he and four teammates returned from a basketball game. Two others were reported in critical condition and a passing motorist assisted. Varela a Lordsburg High School and Highlands University graduate teaches and coaches at La Jolla High School.
