New NM License Plates Adopt Three Letter Prefix System

Police dispatcher Mrs Jesus Dallies displays the new New Mexico plates available December 15 for 1972. Plates use a three letter prefix plus a three digit number, Hidalgo County prefix AKX AKY. 001 is missing. Christmas Tree Permits On Gila Forest Soon Available

Christmas tree permits for the Gila National Forest go on sale at the Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce office Monday through Friday from 9 to 12 and 1 to 5 p.m. starting December 6. One dollar per tree up to eight feet. taller trees require Silver City District Ranger contact. No cutting without permit. no trees within sight of roads. Pinyon trees are in the Burro Mountain area and Douglas fir along Signal Peak Road and Snow Creek Road above Pinos Altos.

Call For Bids On Highway 1 10 Work

The New Mexico Highway Dept calls for bids to erect safety features on the divided highway between Lordsburg and Deming. Work includes extending drainage structures signing guard rails and related construction to be finished in 275 working days. Bids opened at the highway commission meeting in late December.
