Police Monthly Report From Chief Sanchez

Chief Sanchez reports for November the City Police logged 6000 patrol miles and issued 44 arrests or citations. Drunkenness produced most cases with multiple fines and jail terms, overtime parking led with twelve citations, and four accidents plus three stolen cars were investigated. The force attended FBI training in Silver City with all officers completing at least three sessions.

Special PTA Meeting On Mobile Dental Unit Explained

Mrs Ed Hitson president of the PTA calls a special meeting December 12 at 7 30 at the high school to decide on bringing a Dental Mobile Clinic to Lordsburg. Mrs Jesse Austin urges all parents and members to attend as the clinic details will be explained Monday night.

Lordsburg C of C Hosts Prominent Visitors on Highway Issues

Douglas Chamber group led by Lysle W Weeks and Paul Patterson visited Lordsburg on December 6 to host Lordsburg’s Highway Committee. Guests included Carleton B Crum James Brophy Milton Ray and local officials. A March goodwill visit to Lordsburg was planned with a dinner for business people to discuss U S 80 road conditions.

Police Chief Lalo Sanchez expresses appreciation to Lordsburg residents for observing S D Day without incidents. He thanks Miller Chevrolet Company Lordsburg Liberal Judge C L Brown for helping display wrecked cars and photos downtown. He also credits the Border Patrol and State Police for cooperation with city police during the day.

Christmas Story Contest for Students

The Liberal announces a Christmas story or essay contest for fourth to eighth grades with a reward for the best original piece. Submit neatly written or printed work with the student name grade and teacher by December 20. Participation is voluntary and not part of school work.

Mrs. Daniel Mendoza and Mrs. Opal Salaiz recount a Mexican Christmas and postada pageant with childhood memories. The piece explains the nine day novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe beginning December 3 and recounts the Mexican origin of the Virgin’s appearance to Juan Diego, noting the dark skin depiction and initial priestly disbelief.

December 13 Cotton Referendum Date Set in Area

Cotton growers vote December 13 on marketing quotas for the 1956 upland cotton crop. A two thirds approval by voters triggers quotas and penalties. if rejected or low turnout, quotas are not imposed but price supports remain at half parity. All 1955 cotton producers may vote at Virden School House Lordsburg ASC office Animas Cotton Gin from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Post Office Christmas Services And Schedule Announced

The Post Office urges customers to wrap packages securely and print the address with return in the left corner. Insure valuable items and follow card rates for local and out of town deliveries. Office hours include Dec 17 and 24 and Christmas and Dec 26 for paket pickup only. Jan 1–2 closed windows.

Hidalgo County Junior Red Cross Drive Set for December Week

The Hidalgo County Junior Red Cross plans a financial drive the week of December 12 in Lordsburg and all Hidalgo schools. Any donation above a penny makes a child a member. funds stay locally to buy Christmas presents for veterans in hospitals.

Mavericks Lesa Opening Game To Alamogordo

The Lordsburg Mavericks opened the season with a 40 to 37 loss at Alamogordo. Fouls hurt Lordsburg as regulars Mack Pace and Jim Williams fouled out. Byron Stiles stepped up for three quarters and rebounded well.

Lordsburg runners up miss All-State honors in Class B

Santa Rosa captured the Class B crown with five AP selections including two ends and three backs. Mavericks earned no first-team picks but grabbed a second team spot for Dave De La Garza, Ray Camacho, and Bennie Williams, with honorable mentions for Jim Williams, Joe Salais, Mack Pace, Oscar Diaz, and Pete Ruiz.

Lordsburg Christmas Music Program at Central Gym

Lordsburg Junior and Senior High will present a Christmas Music Program Friday at 8 PM in the Central School gym. Performers include the Sixth Grade Glee Club Junior High Chorus High School Mixed Chorus Choralettes Senior Band Ensemble with solos by Yvonne Martinez and Jackie Galusha. The combined choirs total 170 voices. Admission is free. Directed by Elbert Daniels and Roger Brandt.
