Parcel service expansion brings New Mexico wide delivery

United Parcel Service expands in New Mexico with ICC approval to deliver packages to any address within the state and neighboring areas. The service offers next day delivery for 150 miles or more and up to 1 500 miles with fourth day delivery for long distances, plus $100 protection and door to door pickup. The expansion increases state workforce and facilities across multiple cities to 140 staff and 99 vehicles.

Christmas Tree Permits Available on Gila National Forest

Forest Supervisor Dick Johnson says sales start this weekend with limited fir permits in Signal Peak and other districts. Permits are sold Saturdays and Sundays December 2 to 17 at specified offices plus Beaverhead Glenwood and Silver City offices during regular hours weekdays. Unauthorized cutting without a permit is a federal violation.

Break-ins Reported at Marshall Fuller Home and Black Cat Lounge

A break-in at 529 W. Fifth St. Tuesday led to the theft of silver, guns and other valuables from the Marshall Fuller residence while occupants were at work. Earlier, the Black Cat Lounge was burglarized between Saturday night and Monday morning. a juke box cigarette machine and pool table money boxes were opened and an unlocked safe contained about $500, according to police Chief C. C. Gray.

Employment Service Back To Silver City

Hidalgo County is now served by the New Mexico State Employment Service in Silver City. Employers may place job orders by calling 538-3701 or the Albuquerque Job Bank toll free 800-432-6834. Individuals may file work or unemployment insurance applications at the Silver City office.

The Lordsburg Lions Club plans a February 8 1973 magic revue titled 20th Century Phantasies a full evening of magic mirth and mystery for all ages star Fred Story and his team headline the show Wesley Freeburg visiting speaker and former local school superintendent now retired in Taos spoke to the club noting his transfer of membership to the Taos Lions Club.

Nurses Assistant Program Approved in Local High School

Dr. Latham confirms the school board approved a Nurses Assistant Program to join the high school curriculum as part of a broader effort to enhance Health Assistant programs in New Mexico. The program trains students in basic nursing, patient care, teen health issues, and community health awareness, with Miss Carmen Tarango selected to teach and administer it.

Survey Teams To Assess Flood Damage In Area

Three Wirden men met in Silver City with federal state damage survey teams to assess damages in Catron Grant and Hidalgo Counties from floods last October 1920. The teams led by Hastings will inspect debris clearance streets roads and bridges dikes and levees and file repair cost estimates to qualify for federal assistance from the Office of Emergency Preparedness coordinated by George Lincoln and state officers. Hastings brings a decade in disaster recovery including Carla Betsy Beulah Camille and Lubbock Tornado responses and directed a 90 day wage price rent freeze in the Southwest.
