Lordsburg North Central team wraps up Lordsburg visit

A North Central Association evaluation team completed a two and a half day Lordsburg visit with an exit report to school administrators. Retired Carlsbad High principal Bill Loos said accreditation comes from yearly principals reports. The team noted reduced absences, secure teacher climate, rising student morale, and offered curriculum improvement suggestions. A final written report will arrive within three weeks. Lordsburg steering committee members present included Phil Pressler, Wayland Sharp, Richard Moore, Norman Brines, and Ernesto.

Recreation Department Announces Winter Program Changes Lordsburg

The Lordsburg Recreation Department announces winter program changes. Women’s exercise classes move to Tuesday and Thursday 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Central School Gym. Guitar lessons and men’s basketball stay the same. New baton twirling lessons begin December 12 and 15 at the Youth Center, with registration December 7. Fee is $5 per month, taught by Mrs. Barbara Pantoja. For info contact Cecilia Bejarano at City Hall.

New Domestic Mail Size Standard Announced at Lordsburg Post Office

Postmaster Andres Elicio informs the public of a new rectangular mail size standard. The minimum size is 3/2 inches high by S inches long. He also reminds customers that tampering with mail boxes on street or in the post office is a federal offense.

Inspection Held For Local Guard Unit

A command inspection for members of the DET 1 A BTRY Lordsburg Unit of the New Mexico National Guard occurred at the local armory last weekend. LTC Mike Frietze of Las Cruces led the inspection. The piece notes the Guard’s age, its state and national duties, and describes accelerated training options at Ft. Bliss for new enlistees.

WIC Program Expands to New Mexico Counties

The Health Services Division extends WIC eligibility to nutritionally high risk women and infants in Grant, Luna, and Hidalgo counties. Eligible participants include pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants up to one year old, and very high risk children aged one to five referred by physicians. No income limit currently, identification by medical personnel.

Dr Martinez to Be Special ESAA Speaker at Lordsburg

Dr Arthur D Martinez will be guest speaker for a Christmas program by Optimist ESAA Title VII on December 18 at 7 p.m. at Lordsburg Community Cultural Center. He will discuss Christmas Traditions and Customs of Mexico, with tutors singing carols. Martinez, an assistant professor at Western New Mexico University since 1973, has previously spoken locally. Maura Rico will lead arrangements. public attendance is free.

Mayor Warns on Aging Gas Lines in Lordsburg

Mayor Alan Koff told the Lordsburg City Council meeting he asked city workers to monitor for natural gas leaks in aging lines dating back to 1937. He expressed strong concern over gas loss and said staff are exploring ways to cut gas service costs.

Local Churches Sponsor Festival of Trees in Lordsburg

Churches across Lordsburg host a Festival of Trees on Saturday December 8 from 6 to 8 30 pm in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints Multi Purpose room at 9th and Pyramid Street. Carols will be played and refreshments served during the tree viewing.
