Captain John R. Bradford Jr warns drivers amid rising wrecks that strict measures may be needed. He urges obedience to speed limits and road laws, noting drivers risk suspensions and harm to families from injuries or fatalities. Cooperation with laws will prevent penalties.
The Junior class stages Here Comes Charlie a farce at 8:00 P M on Thursday December 6 in the high Rehiditorium. Larry Elliott a broker believes he guardians a small boy but discovers he has a girl to raise named Charlie. his snobbish aunt complicates matters as Charlie arrives from Ark and is aided by Uncle Twiggs.
The City of Lordsburg presented the Key to Hospitality during the Highway 70 Hospitality Cavalcade on November 29. Miss Por, Miss Hospitality, Miss Lordsburg, and Miss Safford participated while Miss Hospitality prepared to travel to Hollywood. Lordsburg cars joined the parade from the Westerner to Safford and back for afternoon events.
Lordsburg ends football season with a 21 13 postseason defeat at Deming Stadium. The Mavericks led off with a 68 yard kickoff return to a John Linguist one yard TD, but Deming answered with a 22 yard run and a successful conversion. A fumbled pitch out by Lordsburg set up Deming’s second score in the second quarter, followed by a Deming fumble recovery that continued the drive.
The Lordsburg Elks Club will host a box supper on Saturday evening December 1 at the club meeting hall for members and guests. Ladies are asked to bring a box whether they are wives of members or guests.
Local officers arrested Howard Monte Ceard after he alighted from a bus. He faces charges from the Mott North Dakota sheriff for obtaining money under false pretenses, a suspect who formerly took funds from a Mission Service station in this city four years ago. Separately, 20 year old Jimmy Madrid surrendered to local police in a cold moment, seeking return to jail in Marfa Texas after burgalry charges.
The American Legion Auxiliary met in the Legion hall with good attendance and several new members. Mrs. Ollie Williams was welcomed as a new member. The group voted to move meetings to the first Monday each month. District President Mrs. Alma Case of Hatch will make an official visit Monday December 3 at the Legion Hall, preceded by a pot luck supper at 6 30 p m.
The Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce reports a surge of inquiries from prospective winter residents seeking a mild climate and sunshine. Respondents include L Johnson of Topeka Kalasas, John P Winchell of Kalamazoo, A L LaFrance and spouse of Minneapolis, and Clayton H Duese of Avon Park. The outreach follows advertising to distant markets and recent visit by John L Perkins, president of the Arizona Hiway 70 Boosters.
Frederick R. McLain a 24 year old Norman Oklahoma man entered the Spencer and Son store on Second Street at 3 10 Thanksgiving morning by a small east window. He used a mattress to ease his descent but his attempt ended in trouble as he caused a messy scene inside the shop.
City Council to paint double traffic stripes along east to west Railroad Ave to ease congestion and reduce accidents. Police urge public cooperation to avoid double parking, especially with a new post office entrance on Second Street and a large nearby lot.
A program titled Know Your Specializ ed Schools will be presented tonight at the high school auditorium by a group from the New Mexico School for the Deaf. Thomas Dillon, principal, leads the group with Mrs Millicent Reynolds and four pupils. Delta Kappa Gamma and the PTA sponsor the event. All parents and teachers are urged to attend.
The 1952 auto license plates will be on sale at Cochran Electric Service and Appliance on Railroad Ave next to the post office. Call 25 or visit the store to keep your previous year’s number.
