Dennis Estrada was named by the Lordsburg School Board to fill the vacancy created by the death of Gilbert Mora. The appointment was made unanimously by board members.
The Lordsburg City Council will convene in regular session December 8 at 6 00 p m following the Lordsburg Housing Authority meeting. Topics include approval of an official statement and Bond Purchase Agreement related to Ordinance 87 12 and the selection of a new Police DepartmentSecretary. The housing authority also meets to discuss closing details of the 1987 C I A P and related matters.
Maria D. Buni Ramirez 20 died Tuesday in Roswell New Mexico. Born November 17 1967 in Fabens Texas she lived most of her life here and attended Animal Schools active in sports. Survived by parents four brothers seven sisters and many friends. Rosary and funeral Mass held at St Josephs with pallbearers named. Bacas Heather Funeral Chapels in charge. Also noted is state police sergeant James L Coon promoted to sergeant stationed in Lordsburg.
The Animal School Board will meet in regular session on Tuesday December 8 at 7 30 p m in the Elementary Library. The upcoming agenda will be posted in all area post offices. The public is encouraged to attend.
Preparations are underway for the annual Festival of Trees to be held Thursday December 10 at the Animal LDS Chapel in Cotton City. A Nativity scene by Nolan and Marie Larson will be displayed along with trees by local groups. Community members will perform Christmas music in two programs at 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. The event features shops selling baked goods candy gingerbread and homemade bread. A video room for children will be available and refreshments will be served.
The Animas district school board met on November 10 with Mike Stone CPA presenting the audit report. He praised the system's cooperation and documentation while Carolyn Schwickerath noted her October attendance at the Emerging Coalition for New Mexico Youth educational conference and related parental group activities.
Lordsburg Elks announce Hoop Shoot dates for December 12 and 19 at Dugan Tarango Middle School gym beginning 9:00 AM. The Shoot Off between Animas and Lordsburg winners is January 16 at the same venue. Winners travel to Tucumcari for the State Championship on February 27 in the Elks 16th annual event.
The City Corner Shop At Home promotes the Moonlight Madness Sale starting December 4 with 53 participating merchants in a Civic Center mini mall. Local businesses extend hours hire staff and showcase special merchandise as part of Christmas season efforts. Citizens are urged to support the community with purchases and window shopping.
