Nashville born Mr. Gospel Guitar Bob Scott Frick will perform at the United Methodist Church on December 2 at 7 p.m. He will sing his compositions and Christian songs, traveling across the United States and Canada to spread the message. A freewill offering will be collected and tapes sold. Frick owns R.E.F. Records and Frick Music Publishing.
Xi Phi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met November 18 at Nora Heather’s home with 14 members present. Helen Allred led the meeting. minutes approved and bills ordered paid. treasurer’s report and correspondence noted. Eva Wilborn received the Golden Key of Friendship Award for the past month. Next meeting set for December 2 at Alice Noce’s home with Judy Fisher co-hostess.
Thieves burglarized the Sears Catalog Store owned by Jim Dearman at about 4 30 a m Friday entering by throwing asphalt through the front door window. Four television sets two microwave ovens and one vacuum cleaner were stolen. The Sheriff's Department investigates.
Precipitation fell across most of the state midweek but was light, leaving soil moisture inadequate in the north and short in the south. Harvest continues for cotton, grain sorghum, corn, red chile, and pecans with cotton around 65 percent complete, grain sorghum about 85 percent harvested, and lettuce harvest finished in the Mesilla Valley. Range and livestock remain in good condition as cattle ship to winter ranges and markets. Temperatures ran 2–4 degrees above normal east and south, with a midweek storm delivering 1/4 to 1/2 inch in central and western areas.
Erica Nicole Hall, three, daughter of Candy Mesa, is among first entrants in the Little Miss and Mr. Christmas Contest by the B and PW Club of Lordsburg. Erica sings You Are My Sunshine. First holiday contest in Lordsburg. Judges set for December 18 at the High School Cafetorium. Entries due December 11. Entry forms available from club members or the Liberal office.
The state reports a record 146.8 million dollars in Mineral Leasing Receipts for 1982 from the BLM, split 79.4 million first half and 67.4 million second half. Oil and gas lead, with coal and other minerals also included. Wyoming totaled 167.9 million. State Director Bill Luscher cites higher production under current policy. New Mexico's 1982 total is about 18.7 million more than 1981.
The Liberal Files notes Lordsburg could host a major refinery with a SOHIO representative surveying water electricity housing and property. Lordsburg also welcomes Rene's Aviation Inc at the municipal airport and reports various local civic activities.
