Fatal Collision Near Lordsburg Claims Multiple Inquires

A four vehicle accident near Lordsburg on a high speed road injured several people. Betty Su Caldwell and Mary Lou Caldwell sustained injuries while Mrs. Taylor of Midland Texas and James H. J. Caldwell were involved. The incident involved a vehicle overturning on its top and fatalities occurred in Hidalgo County during 1953. Police and station staff investigated after observers reported a car fleeing the scene.

Chief Lalo Reports November Police Activity in Lordsburg

Chief Lalo forwards November police report via Chief Sanchez detailing Lordsburg department activity. Patrol covered 3500 miles, 50 arrests including drunken driving, speeding, and reckless driving. Fines ranged from 10 to 35 dollars. two drivers had licenses revoked for a year. One rape case statement is continued on page seven.

Mavericks Open Basketball Season With Win

The Lordsburg Mavericks beat the Hatch Bears 53 to 37 to start the season. Coach Smith used the whole squad, praising defense and hustle while noting fair ball handling and weak free throwing. Pace led scoring with 16 points. Maxwell had 5 assists and 7 free throws.

Virden Girls Host Volleyball Play Day With Regional Teams

Eastern Arizona and Western New Mexico high school girls met at Virden High School on Saturday November 20 for a play day. Virden won the opener 36 to 13 over Safford, Thatcher beat Animas 39 to 6, Duncan defeated Clifton 24 to 12, and Clifton topped Pima 16 to 12 in a tight afternoon.

The 1955 car license plates go on sale December 15, 1954. Plates are sold in numerical order, but individuals may retain 1954 low numbers if they submit a written request to the distributor by December 15, 1954. Requests are reserved until December 24, 1954.

Growers Urged To Vote On December 14

The cotton marketing quota referendum will be held December 14 nationwide to decide price support for 1955 upland cotton. If two thirds approve quotas, price support ranges from 82 to 90 percent of parity. if quotas are defeated, support drops to 50 percent. Voting hours are 9 AM to 5 PM at Animas Cotton City Cafe, Virden Church, and Lordsburg ASC Office.

Christmas Seals Mailed for 1954 55 Campaign

Mrs. Margaret Powell says seals are in the mail for the 1954 55 drive to fight tuberculosis in Hidalgo County. Last year county residents donated 392 00 to support the Tuberculosis Association work including mobile chest X ray surveys, follow up care, health education, and medical research programs.
