Mrs Ora Mae Brister Dies at 62 Rancher and Rider

Mrs Ora Mae Brister 62 Hidalgo County rancher and rider died Tuesday in Hidalgo General Hospital. A Boggs Oklahoma native who moved to New Mexico in 1920 she was a rodeo performer and Sun Princess at El Paso Sun Carnival in the late 1920s. Funeral services Friday at 10 a.m. Heather Chapel with burial in Mountain View Cemetery. active pallbearers listed including Stan Archibald and Brooks Claridge.

Government report shows slight gain in Hidalgo County employment

Hidalgo County employment rose one percent from March 1964 to March 1965 in the County Business Patterns report by the US Bureau of the Census. The county had 712 employees in March 1965, with retail trade employing 274 and service firms 182, and statewide New Mexico total employment rose four percent to 169 890 with payrolls near 196 million.

LHS Student Council Reports On Activities

Lordsburg High School student council sponsored American Flags for classrooms and collected five dollar donations from organizations. They plan a 6 AMERICANISM assembly with student speeches, and decided to buy a share in HADECO to back community service. Christmas baskets will be prepared for needy families and toy donations are invited. Mr. Rice, Liberal editor, honored as businessman of the month at a town dinner in the cafeteria for his service to LHS.

LULACS Fund Raising Santa Claus Project

The Lulacs launch their annual fund raising drive featuring a 5'7" Santa Claus filled with gift certificates to be drawn December 24 at the La Fiesta Club. Proceeds fund scholarships for L. H. S. graduates with many local businesses contributing certificates and prizes.

Christmas Tree Permits On Sale In Gila Forest

Gila National Forest offers 9 Christmas tree permits for personal use. Forest Ranger will sell at Lordsburg Chamber of Commerce Office on Friday December 9 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at 1.00 per tree. Cutting areas include Snow Creek Signal Peak roads near Silver City and Burro Mountains near Lordsburg with rules to protect Highway 90 view.

Nearly 50 HADECO shareholders attended the first annual meeting at City Hall on Tuesday November 28 with President Ralph Burton presiding. Reports from committee chairs covered activities and progress and Burton outlined projects and non profit status benefiting the county community.

Mountain States Telephone announces a $50,000 mobile unit display titled Communics on a Unlimited visiting Lordsburg December 8 at Lordsburg High School. It features Telstar animation farm interphone Touch Tone Dialing Phonovision and other telecommunication exhibits open 9 am to 4 pm with no admission fee. Local employees will host visitors.

Real Estate Commission Meets In Lordsburg

The New Mexico Real Estate Commission held its regular monthly meeting on Monday November 26 in Lordsburg at the Americana Restaurant. Attendees included Jame Jurns of Clovis Paul Eichenberg of Albuquerque Jack Morgan local member Paul Brown executive secretary and Kenneth Miller assistant secretary both of Albuquerque Sam Brown liaison from the Albuquerque Realtor Association. Mr and Mrs Morgan hosted a cocktail party Friday evening and Mayor Alan Koff with Miss Marshalene Goodsell and Mrs Betty Lazar hosted a dinner at the Americana Saturday evening. Guest speaker was former El Paso congressman Ed Foreman now residing in Las Cruces.
