Eagle Scout Honor Bestows Badge on Stanfird Jones
A Court of Honor at Virden Church Sunday evening November 12 awarded Stanfird L. Jones the Eagle Scout badge presented by his father Stan L. Jones. The Duncan High School junior is active in the L D S Church earning Duty to God, and is a probationary National Honor Society member. He plays in the school band as tubist, also piano and has sung with groups. He enjoys basketball and tennis and helped Duncan reach the State Tennis Tournament.

Funeral Services Held For Father Diaz
Rosary services for Rev. Pedro El Busto Diaz were held at St. Joseph's Church in Lordsburg on November 20 1972. A Pontifical Mass followed November 21 1972 officiated by Bishop Metzger El Paso. The 64 year old Spaniard served as missionary in the Philippines and Dominican Republic and in the Diocese of El Paso for 12 years. He was pastor at Our Lady of Purification for 10 years and at St. Joseph's Lordsburg for the past two years. Burial was at Shakespeare Cemetery with Heather Mortuary in charge. Survivors include three sisters and a brother, all in Spain.

Lordsburg High School Mighty Mavericks Band competed as the sole New Mexico entry at a El Paso marching contest. Judges Duane Kower Fenton Katz and John Roberts praised showmanship originality and carriage, rating the group excellent. Afterward the band enjoyed Pancho's meal and pledged to be the best next year.
