City utility rates rise in Lordsburg council action

Lordsburg city councillors approved higher sewer and gas rates at a Monday City Hall meeting. The sewer charge for commercial water use is 20 cents per 1000 gallons with a $12.60 minimum monthly fee, while domestic users pay $12.36 per metered unit plus $4.32 per additional housing unit. Ten percent of sewer revenue funds a maintenance reserve. Gas rates are projected to generate about $24,000 annually for a gas improvement fund after a prior $48,000 billing error. Sherri Arredondo accepts responsibility and customers were credited. Last year the gas department spent $30,000 on equipment and needs $20,000–$22,000 this year for upgrades on Animas and Hardin Streets.
