The Silver Nuggets Visit Shakespeare Ghost Town

Shakespeare Ghost Town presents The Silver Nuggets Visit Shakespeare on August 25 and 26 as part of the Shakespeare Guards series. Local dancers Heather Allen and others perform a Can Can on the General Merchandise porch, with riotous miner crowd scenes and cast including Bill Langham Manny Hough and more. Performances occur at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. tours with admission 3 dollars adult and 2 dollars under 12.

LHS Season Tickets Go On Sale

Lordsburg Maverick football season tickets go on sale Friday at the school. Student tickets are 10 dollars, adults 15, and adults with parking 20. Parking spaces are held for last season’s holders until August 31, then sold first come. The Mavericks host Morenci September 7 and open the road schedule August 31 at Duncan.

Free Blood Pressure and Sugar Screenings Begin Monday

The VA Community Clinic at 1302 E. 32 St. in Silver City hosts free blood pressure and blood sugar screening clinics starting Monday August 27. Appointments can be made by calling 538-2921.

Hidalgo County Commissioners recognized the county fair photo entry as most representative of Hidalgo County. Robert Fallis Dies at 45 in Lordsburg

Robert Fallis 45 of Lordsburg died Thursday August 16. He was an Elder in the local Jehovahs Witnesses congregation. He is survived by his mother Eva Fallis father Robert Fallis wife Cheryl brother Eric sisters Linda Loretta and two children Bob and Niki.

Workers Gearing Up For Bazaar

The annual St. Joseph Bazaar is three weeks away with organizers seeking parish cooperation. Raffle ticket money should be handed to Gloria Martinez, LouAnn Gallegos, or Lorrie Martinez. Dolores Villa Garcia Villa born March 13, 1915 died August 13, 1990 at 9 30 p m in Yole General Hospital Woodland California. Formerly from Lordsburg she is survived by three daughters Aurora Botello Ophelia Calderon Petra Garcia Tucson Arizona and three sons Juan Garcia Pete Villa David Villa. Commissioners Press Playas Road Closure At Site

County Commissioners gathered at the Playas Road site stating the road remains closed to travel until state takeover and official opening. Butch Mayfield and Justin Kipp voiced fencing concerns, which were assured to be addressed by the county as officials plan a closed session with State Highway officials on Tuesday.

TNP Office Will Not Close Lordsburg Office

A letter in the Liberal on August 17 suggested Texas New Mexico Power would close its Lordsburg office at 210 E 5th. Manager A C Rodriguez states the company has no intention of closing that office now or in the future, likely in reference to the Power Plant.

City Council to weigh utility rate increases on Monday

City Councillors will hold a public hearing Monday August 27 at 6 00 PM to consider a proposed utility rate increase expected to generate about 43200 annually. A separate gas rate hike would bring roughly 24000 in extra revenue with all funds allocated to the Gas Improvement Fund for major repairs maintenance and equipment in the Gas Department.

City Wins Top Float Honors At Chili Cookoff

Beta Sigma Phi with Hidalgo County Fair staged a chili cookoff awarding winners in Salsa Red and Green divisions. Kranberries, Beta Sigma Phi, and Western Bank took top spots across divisions. Additional honors went to Western Bank Salsa as Hottest, Best Western American for Most Efficient, Kranberries as Best Support, and Western Bank for Most Creative.

Clyde Nard Services Held Thursday

Clyde Arnold Nard, 82, longtime Lordsburg resident, died Sunday August 19 at the New Mexico Veterans Center in Truth or Consequences. Visitation was Wednesday from 11:00 to 2:00 at Baca's Heather Chapel. Funeral services followed at 2:00 with Rev. Coy Brewer officiating. Interment at Mt. View Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jimmy McCants, Charles McCargish, Ralph Wright, Bob Hall, Howard Meadows, Jake McCarty. Honorary bearers: Bill Smith, Homer Baird, Harold Bishop, Ed Bowman, Marvin Kimbley. He was born August 8, 1908 in Menard, Texas, lived in Lordsburg about 55 years, and worked as maintenance supervisor for the Lordsburg Schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lordsburg, Disabled American Veterans, and a U.S. Army veteran. Survived by two daughters, Tommie L. Nard and Allene Strain, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren. Entombed to Baca's Heather Funeral Chapels.
