Old Timers Parade Route and Schedule

The Old Timers Parade titled How The West Was Won will be held next Friday morning September 6 at 10:00. Entries line up in front of the High School and travel from the High School east to Main, north to Reur oad Avenue, east to El Paso Dixie Truck Stop, then to the fair grounds. Parade Marshal Gilbert Buven s will assist at the High School for float line up.

Black Cat Bites Girl in Rabies Probe Near Motel

A black cat described as vicious bit a girl. The sheriff’s department sent the head to a laboratory to check for rabies. The cat, seen near the Yucca Motel and A Root Beer stand, prompted a contact notice for anyone who may have been exposed.

Business Houses To Close Labor Day

Lordsburg County Chamber of Commerce says all businesses will close Monday for Labor Day. The bank will close Friday at 2:00 PM and reopen Saturday from 9 to 12 noon.

County Fair Events Highlight Hidalgo County Schedule

Hidalgo County fair days feature the Old Timers Parade at 10 a.m. Thursday September 6 with the theme How the West Was Won. The fairgrounds open after the parade and livestock judging begins, with the 4 H and F F A junior sale at 2 p.m. Friday, an AAA rodeo weekend at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:00 p.m. Sunday, and the Second Annual American Quarter Horse Show Saturday at 9 a.m. Entries close Friday noon.

Las Cruces Woman Killed In Car Accident

A one car crash five miles west of Las Cruces on Highway 80 at 6 45 p m claimed the life of Theodora Eugenia Dubevick 26. Her husband Lowell Dubevick and two children Michel le 2 and Michael 5 were in the vehicle. The driver turned to check a child and lost control the car overturned 1 1 2 times crushing her. Michael suffered forehead lacerations and abrasions while Thelovedones had elbow injuries and shock. Michelle was unhurt.

Burglary Reports Hit Local Businesses and Stations

Over the past week two business sites W F Ritter Lumber Co and Ray s El Paso Service Station were broken into with entry through a rest room window. Items including a power saw knives and ammunition were stolen and two juveniles were questioned by police. In Rodeo New Mexico Mrs Merle Deans Grocery and Buford Martins Chevron Station were also robbed. Sheriff Leroy McCarty said a personal item left by the burglar may help solve the case.

Witness Changes Story: Three Jurgiary Charges Dismissed

Justice C. L. Brown dismissed breaking and entering charges against Severo Granado Agustin Granado and Eusebio Abeyta on a district attorney motion. Principal witness Ray Mundo Verela recanted a signed statement naming them as accomplices in the Lordsburg Lumber burglary. Verela also said his Ortega testimony was false and perjury charges may be filed.

Jack Morgan Named To Real Estate Board

Jack Morgan, local real estate and insurance man, was appointed August 20 to the New Mexico Real Estate Board for the term ending June 20, 1965. Governor Jack Campbell announced the selection. Morgan is a former state representative from Hidalgo County who first served when the county won its own seat and was re elected several times before retiring at year's start.

Montoya backs anti by pass law in Senate bid speech

At a Democratic barbecue in Espanola Joseph M. Montoya announced his candidacy for the U S Senate seat once held by Dennis Chavez and now held by Edwin L. Mechem. He attacked federal vetoes on New Mexico anti by pass law and urged preserving local citizenry planning voice. He asserted the Senate majority would remain Democratic.

Legion Auxiliary Officers Re-elected and Awards Given

Ro bert Swan Unit No. 30 American Legion re elected officers for 1963 64. Officers include President Mrs Katherine Montague Vice President Miss Lala Hernandez Secretary Mrs Elmer Jeanes Treasurer Mrs Connie Saucedo Chaplain Mrs B Austin Historian Mrs Grace Wright and Sgt at Arms Mrs Jesus Padilla. The unit received several awards including a National Citation, the Dearholt Trophy, the Joplin Trophy for most new members and the Gallup Trophy for outstanding membership work. A Jr Auxiliary party is planned for Sept 3 at 7 30 p m with invitation to prospective members.
