National Guard Unit Returns Home From Training
Sixty nine members of Battery C 176 AAA Bn 90mm Gun from Lordsburg returned by truck convoy last Saturday noon after completing a two week annual field training. Lt Jesus Estrada praised the units progress and noted drills at Fort Bliss Texas and Oro Grande firing range with M 33 R and Modified 90 mm guns. The battery's motor and mess sections earned commendations from HQs 716th AAA Bn for outstanding field performance.

Mrs Brown Named To Demo Ticket For Hidalgo County
At a Democratic Central Committee meeting on Monday night Mrs Clara Brown was unanimously chosen as the Democratic candidate for Hidalgo County assessor. Her late husband Perry Brown had previously run unopposed in the Democratic Primary last May. The committee also appointed Manuel S Ramirez Charles Marshall Fuller Damon W Dunagan and Sen R H Warnel to revise party rules and regulations in Hidalgo County and discussed the upcoming campaign.

Rainbow Girls install two local grand officers in Las Vegas NM
Sue Ann Freeburg and Katy Spencer were installed as grand officers of the Grand Assembly of New Mexico Rainbow for Girls in Las Vegas on August 14–16. Miss Freeburg became grand nature and Miss Spencer grand representative to the State of laws with Miss Simmie Gibson of Farmington named grand worthy advisor. The 1958 assembly included 559 Rainbow Girls and over 750 Eastern Stars and Masons, who voted to hold the 1959 Grand Assembly in Alamogordo.

The first crop of Animas pinto beans was sold on Aug 13 to Amezcua Produce Co. of El Paso for 7.55. The market has since fallen due to a large Colorado crop. Local growers bought an Oxford bean polisher to raise quality and may set up an onion storage house. Discussions with Lordsburg’s Mr. Dockum and Polar Vnc Inc explored new lettuce trade in the valley.
