Second Tornado Visits In Silver City Area On Sunday
Silver City faces a second tornado in under a month with Aug 19 causing more damage than the July 31 storm. In Silver Acres two miles southeast, Mr and Mrs George Price lost most of the roof and interior in their home on Country Club Drive while they were away at church. Their three dogs escaped unharmed as neighbor Larry Himes observed the destruction around 11 20.

The city of Lordsburg faces two new lawsuits filed last week. The first, in Sixth District Court, seeks a $100 monthly retroactive salary increase for Municipal Judge Jesus Estrada and full enforcement of salary ordinances. Defendants include the city, Mayor Alan A. Koff, and several council members. The second suit was filed August 13 by former officer Roy Patterson, with plaintiffs' attorneys Ralph Ellinwood and Manuel Saucedo.

Dental Survey Planned For School Children
A dental survey will be conducted at Animal Schools on Aug 29 and Lordsburg Schools on Aug 30 to assess how high fluoride levels in Hidalgo County water affect children's teeth. Dr James Calderone, Health Services Division, Santa Fe, will examine first and second graders in Playas, Hachita, Rodeo and seventh to eighth graders in Lordsburg, with parental permission required. The tests are free, and results will go to the State Environment Improvement Division for possible fluoride variance decisions, with public hearings Sept 6 in Playas and Lordsburg.
