The Maverick Booster Club held its first meeting of the school year at the Range Cafe to elect new officers and introduce the new coaching staff. Outgoing president Altuna Jr introduced Football Coach Dewey and the staff Coaches Kowalski Goodman and Herrera. Kowalski named head basketball coach and gave a brief past performance as player. Hernandez elected club head. Baisa re elected treasurer Benny appointed member chair. A Mavericks Pall game discussion and a film of the 1959 Sun Bowl Dow ns featured. members invited to attend.
State Park and Recreation Commission approves two new area parks near Lordsburg. Mammoth Lake site gains attention after prehistoric mammoth bones found during highway material excavation. Manzanita Park planned three miles west of the Silver City road with access via Highway 79. Senator Smalley aided the effort with HADECO support and funding to match federal money.
The County Clerk’s Office will be open Saturday August 24 from 3 30 a m to 5 00 p m for absentee ballots for the August 27 primary. This is the final date to request a ballot. Monday August 26 at 12 is the final hour to return ballots to the Clerk. ballots received after that time will not be counted.
Robert M. Reynolds died Thursday morning August 22 after a long illness in Hidalgo General Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am Saturday at the Heather Chapel. An obituary will appear in next week's edition.

Mavericks State Five Home Games For 1968 Season opens home slate hosting Parkland High School a new El Paso school Friday September 12 at 730 pm at Deming. Season starts with a road opener at Deming September 6 against the Wildcats with other district and non district games listed.
The city recreation department awarded trophies to CKE Auto and Southwest Supply for finishing first and second. The season ended with tight matches. Fe deral Resources, C&E Auto, and Shell Oilers posted notable runs. Freddy Levario received the winning coach trophy while the department donated sponsor trophies for the top teams.
Next Tuesday August 27 is the New Mexico primary election for congressional state and county offices. Lordsburg polling divisions A B C are at Central School Gym City Hall auditorium and American Legion Hall. Absentee ballots available from the county clerk until August 24 at 5 pm and must be returned by August 26 noon. county clerk office open Saturdays until deadline.
The Lordsburg Woman's Club was chosen to host the Fourth District New Mexico Federation Annual Convention in November. Executive Board members from Alamogordo Las Cruces Reserve and Lordsburg met at the American Motel to finalize plans. The convention theme is Today's Woman Tomorrow's Future with headquarters at the American Motel and programs at the Methodist Church.

The South west New Mexico Resource Conservation and Development Area gains project approval from the Secretary of Agriculture. The Swim team traveled to Silver City for the Southwest District Championships on August 10 and 11 with members Larry Neal Caron Reay Knute Dockum Ruben Bassa Buster Estrada Aaron Richins Pisulette Huna Wanda Mesa George Lytle and Coach Freddy LaMarca. They earned 36 ribbons from first to sixth place and surpassed last year’s 28 ribbons including one first and 10 second places. Lordsburg contributed 16 ribbons with three swimmers.
