Mexican national wounded by alleged pistol shot near Lords

A Mexican national was struck in the leg by a small caliber gun reportedly fired by James last Sunday at 7 am near the Lords city limits. The suspect Allen was arrested, charged with discharging a firearm into the town, and released on 1000 bond. Reports say the shooting occurred in the theater building on Railroad Avenue and no complaint was filed as of this writing.

Band Parents Entertain Junior High Students Saturday

Lordsburg band parents invite more than 100 junior band students and their guests to a 6 p.m. movie in the school study hall with hot dogs and fries. Current and last year’s members are expected, and those who began this summer are urged to attend. The event begins promptly in the study hall.

Family Reunion Honors Late Harry Payne on 100th Birthday

More than 300 descendants from seven states gathered in Virden for a two day celebration marking the late Harry M Payne’s would be 100th birthday on December 3. The event included a Friday supper pageant and a Saturday talent program followed by a church barbecue.

The Lordsburg High Mavericks sharpen for the 1957 season with 25 backs and 30 linemen in conditioning, ten report from camp, and seven lettermen returning. Banner Mine and Community Co-Champions of Little League

Banner Mine and Community Public Service were co champions of Little League after a 5-0 win over Harvell and Powell. Kayo Varela pitched effectively after a rough start, and Lasoro Tarrango hit a home run as Banner Mine built an early lead with three runs and added two more in the third.

Gunshot Victim In Serious Condition In Silver City

Louis Rodriquez 15 is in serious condition at Hillcrest General Hospital Silver City after a gunshot Wednesday afternoon. He was taken from Lordsburg to the local hospital by three youths who fled. police and state authorities are tracking them with collaborators. Rodriquez cannot speak. others say the shooting occurred during rabbit hunting. Police also investigate Dr Cohen office break ins medicine missing and vehicle vandalism cases in the area.

County Commissioners Fill Vacancy in School Office

Mrs Jewel Birtrong of Animas was appointed to fill the vacancy in the county school superintendent's office after the resignation of Mrs Katy Hall. Birtrong will take office September 1. Hall resigned after eight months of her two year term, saying the county schools have sufficient teachers. A list of teachers released includes Animal High School principal J Lavar Lines and staff, Animas Grade School teachers, Rodeo principal Amanda Leibrecht and Sarah Baker, and Virden staff George Saunders Margaret Brubaker and Patricia Donaldson.

The Lordsburg Indians will play host Sunday at 2 30 at Short Field against Clifton baseball club. They beat San Simone 9 to 6 last Sunday. Earlier game against the Ole Timers ended in a 3 3 tie after six innings.
