Timers Rodeo and County Fair Set in Lordsburg Week

The annual Hidalga ry Sheriff Posse Timers Parade opens Thursday in Lordsburg with events from 10 o'clock. The county fair runs four days featuring fat calves lambs and community booths. A junior livestock auction is set for Friday at 8 p.m. and rodeo performances start Saturday at 2:30 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

Banquet High School Plans Annual Banquet Event

Banquet High School schedules its second annual banquet for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Lord High School. A musical program features Judy McMerri Stubbs Tom and Beth Lytle and a band led by Bob Nally David Brandt and Roger Brandt. The evening includes a solo horn piece and the presentation of the John trophy for outstanding achievement from the Lordsburg Band.

Mechem Names Auditor Aide Following Santa Fe Nomination

Mechem appoints Hawin L. Mechem to select the state auditor post with Ben Chavez assisting in Albuquerque. The appointment follows the death of J. D Who and comes after an election in November 1956 where the late candidate was unsuccessful.

Old Timers Ball Game Planned for Sunday

An Old Timers baseball game is set for Sunday August 15 at 1 00 PM between the Lordsburg Indians and a veterans team. Any over 40 player who scores a run will receive a case of beer and several barley horses may be used in the attempt. A follow up game was tentatively set with Columbus but confirmation was pending.

The MYF of the First Methodist Church held an all day and overnight retreat at Culberson Burro Ranch on Tuesday to plan the coming year's program. Rev. VFW Auxiliary Plans Entertainment For Vets

The VFW Auxiliary to Bataan Post No 3099 held a rummage sale in the former Lordsburg Drug building donated by Leo Smith. They thank helpers and plan to entertain Fort Bayard veterans at the September Rodeo.

The Auxiliary to Bataan Post No 3099 VFW met at 406 East 2nd St on Aug 12 with President Harriet Kerr presiding. Irene Hood Inez Hood and Sara Barka were welcomed after initiation. The Fourth District VFW meeting is set for Aug 18 at El Charro Cafe with a pot luck dinner at 6 pm followed by the meeting.

Lordsburg High School releases an eight game football schedule for the coming season with one open date. Four games are at home and four away. Registration for all elementary students is scheduled for Friday August 30 starting at 9 am. Grades one through eight report to their usual building. High school seniors register Thursday August 29 starting at 1 pm. Fresh sophomores and juniors register Friday August 30 at 9 am. Classes begin Tuesday September 3.

Lordsburg Family Relocates to Puente California

Mr and Mrs L C Scherling and son Sandy move to Puente California as he transfers within Southern Pacific to the Rio Grande Division becoming assistant trainmaster in Pomona. The family, active in church and social affairs, previously lived in Lordsburg and Carrizozo New Mexico. Mrs Scherling organized the Ground Observer Corps as chief observer.

Second Half Title In Balance In Little League Standings

Four-H Club Members Win at New Mexico Camp

Two Hidalgo County 4-H senior members attended the 34rd New Mexico 4-H Club Camp. Martha Nell DeVilbiss won a red ribbon in dress revue. Farrell Lines won a blue ribbon in demonstration and talent and a trophy as second in general agriculture for soil conservation. Farrell presented a donor certificate from the New Mexico Grain and Feed Dealers Association to Carl Meriwether. Activities included livestock judging and various demonstrations with a general assembly and talks by Dr. Corbett and Dr. Black.
