School staff welcomed new teachers in a 1982 1983 orientation. Principal Vance Lee introduced hires from Apache Grove Las Vegas and Holtville joining for junior high science English high school math and special education roles. Governor Bruce King and officials expected for dedication.

Trade OK to place ad signs on Shady Grove property

Shady Grove agrees to allow city advertisement signs on the east side off ramps in exchange for a Shady Grove sign on the west side off ramp in Lordsburg pending State Highway Department approval. The move could boost tourist and truck trade if a planned tourist center materializes. council also adopts a gazebo project for North Park with $15,000 county recreational funding and plans to use county materials.

TNM seeks 7.10 percent rate hike from PSC

Texas New Mexico Power requests a 7.10 percent overall rate increase with an estimated $3.42 million extra yearly revenue. Vice President Maxie Davie says typical bills would rise about $2.71 monthly for 400 kWh, varying by usage, with 400 kWh bills moving from $43.44 to $46.15. The filing outlines increases by customer class from residential to industrial and notes higher interest costs and rising material and service expenses as main drivers.

Hidalgo County Fair Parade Preparations Detailed

Hidalgo County Fair organizers finalize parade route and schedule with entrants assembling at the high school by 1:00 p.m. and the cavalcade starting at 2:00 p.m. Floats themed Visions of the Future will be judged in senior and junior divisions with prizes from 50 to 15 dollars. School Year Gets Send-Off With Luncheon

The Lordsburg School District held a luncheon at the Cafetorium welcoming new and existing staff. Dr. Joel Price noted record low turnover, introducing new teachers from Deming and Silver City for Dugan Tarango Middle and R.V. Traylor Elementary, plus Gail Jones at the high school. Board president Lance Williams honored Doris Smith for 32 years of service. Dr. John Butler of Western New Mexico University spoke, stressing the significance of educators' work and offering encouragement.
