Sunset Highwaymen Boosters Tour West to San Diego Route

Sunday a delegation of about 40 Sunset Highway boosters from Casa Grande Wilcox Bowie and Eloy traveled to meet in Sunset Highway plans. The group outlined a cross country route from Boston to San Diego via US 80 linking Carlsbad El Paso Benson Gila Bend and Lordsburg with Arizona’s segment funded at 437000. A September 18 meeting in Casa Grande was set to draw 200 delegates from San Diego to Bowie.

A fine baby boy named Charles Robert Walker was born in Plainview Texas on July 22 to Rev and Mrs Charles Walker. The mother and child are doing well. Rev Walker previously taught at Lordsburg and later at State Teachers College Silver City before entering the ministry.

Special Antelope Season Granted with 275 permits across three ranches

The State Game Department announces a special permit antelope season for 275 bucks from October 1 to September 20. Areas include Captain B. C. Mossman ranch west of Roswell with 50 permits, Flying H Hendrick's Scarbrough's northwest of Hope with 126 permits, and Diamond A north of Eagle with 100 permits. A $5 permit fee plus the regular big game license is required. Applications must be in letter form with name and address, received at the State Game Warden's office by 9 am September 20. If applications exceed 275 a drawing will determine permits.

Delightful Loop Trip Along Coronado Trail

Mr. and Mrs. L. Robinson with Miss Luna Clark of Dallas and other relatives took a motor loop trip Sunday. They drove the Coronado Trail to Alpine via Hannagan Meadow and the virgin forest where live deer, wild turkeys and a porcupine were sighted. They left at 7 am and returned 1 am Monday.

Lordsburg Honored At State Legion Convention

Delegates from Lordsburg fell 27 votes short of hosting the state Legion convention next year but local commander Claude F. os was elected District Commander for Southwestern counties. Lordsburg supporters included Col. W. C. Porterfield, with Raton winning by a narrow margin. Funds of 6000 earned for the 1939 fund were deposited in the bank as nucleus. Accompanying Commander Sanders were H. A. Brown, W. W. Scott and W. H. Walter.

Hidalgo county 4-H camp for boys and girls held at Cave Creek August 12 13 and 14 drew seventy six attendees from Virden Valley View Hachita Lordsburg Animas Rodeo. District Agent Olive B Cruse County Agent Harlan Black led with Elien O Mara health nurse and Ernest Lyckman organizing crafts and entertainment. The week featured hikes swimming and daily programs including vesper services songs and marionette shows with local club members and community leaders assisting.

Cattle Grading at Brock Ranch Sept 7 in Hidalgo and Grant

Cattle grading demonstrations popular in the region will be held at the J O C Brock ranch on Tuesday September 7 for Hidalgo and Grant counties. Notable speakers include J K Wallace W A Wineach and UH Tolbert with the program covering livestock outlook range management and carrying capacity. Congress backs a new 75000 project for a Lordsburg post office. Post Master Eugene Montague reports postal receipts exceed the needed level by 1000 and rise each month. The chamber of commerce will monitor Washington developments and inform Liberal readers.

Delightful outing of Dr and Mrs C B Austin on Pacific coast

Dr and Mrs C B Austin return Sunday from a 14 day trip along the Pacific coast. They visited San Diego La Jolla and Agua Caliente with a stop in Balboa Park and Coronado and toured the new eight million dollar Agua Caliente hotel. In Los Angeles they visited Columbia Studios via relatives and saw a major film with Irene Dunne and Cary Grant meeting the stars off set. They also met Mr and Mrs Eddy O'Brien who asked to be remembered to Lordsburg friends.

Hidalgo Stock Show Planned in Lordsburg Sept 26

W. H. Tolbert succeeds Dr. Black as Extension animal husbandman and with county agents and stockmen organized a livestock show in Lordsburg on Saturday September 26. The event features goats sheep and Hereford cattle with premiums from local merchants and Chamber of Commerce support. A premium list and explanation letter are being prepared for Liberal as the show advances.
